Frost released; Barnett, Pettway to IR; Malone, Porter signed
As coach Mike McCarthy earlier today said they would, the Packers have released punter Derrick Frost.
They didn't immediately announce the signing of a new punter.
Frost, who was signed when the Packers cut Jon Ryan just before the season opener in September, performed well in practices but couldnt carry it over to games. Frost had been released by Washington at the end of training camp.
Frost had only eight punts downed inside the 20-yard line, tying him for 29th in the 32-team NFL. He averaged 42.1 yards per punt and 36.1 net yards, putting him outside the leagues top 20 in both categories.
The Packers made four other roster moves.
Linebacker Nick Barnett and defensive end Kenny Pettway on injured reserve with knee injuries. Barnett tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee on Nov. 9 and had surgery on Nov. 20. Pettway was injured late in Sunday's loss to Carolina.
Barnett had 68 tackles (49 solo) in nine starts. Pettway played in eight games, mostly on special teams. and had five tackles.
They were replaced on the roster by defensive tackle Alfred Malone and cornerback Joe Porter, both signed from the practice squad.
The 6-foot-4, 312-pound Malone will wear No. 98. The 5-10, 203 pound Porter will wear No. 40. Both are first year players who have spent parts of the last two seasons on the Packers practice squad.
