The Green Bay Packers are releasing the three guys they put on injured reserve as they pared their roster. One of them is former second-round pick Quinten Rollins.

I think what this means is that none of these guys were hurt bad enough to stay on IR for the whole year so by cutting them with an injury settlement it free's them up to sign somewhere else after their injuries heal or even back with the Packers after a few weeks. In a way its telling the guy we will pay you while you rehab and if we want you later on we will come calling. The player can sign with another team but then they don't get paid by the team that cut them with a settlement. If they want to wait it out they may get resigned after they are rehabbed.

Do you really think there is a team that is going to look at a player and say, "Well he's better than what we have for the third string but hey, 'We solidified our roster already' so we can't take him." Every team will jump at the chance to add a better quality/low cost player be it week 1 or week 17.

Either way, if we waive them injured, we can't sign them back for however number of weeks. But we wouldn't have to use our IR "return" move.
