Packers win the Super Bowl in next two seasons and McCarthy stays. If the Packers don't win one in the next two seasons, I think McCarthy and Packers part-ways.

Mike McCarthy was hired in 2006 to take over for former head coach Mike Sherman. Since then, the Green Bay Packers have compiled a record of 121-70-1.

Late last year, the Packers quietly gave McCarthy a one-year extension through the 2019 season, seemingly ending any debate as to McCarthy’s short-term future with the organization.

The question still remains. Is Mike McCarthy’s seat warming up?

The simple answer is yes.

Eight years is long enough to have a free pass. The free pass is having won the Super Bowl.

Since then, there has been a series of miscues (2014 NFC Championship Game), underperformance during the playoffs (2012 season), and mediocrity (2017 season).

It is with the understanding that the Packers haven’t had the most talented roster under Ted Thompson‘s regime as general manager. But McCarthy has done it with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback.

McCarthy is regarded as one of the top offensive coaches in the NFL. He’s also built a reputation as a quarterback whisperer.

His reputation took a hit after the 2014 NFC Championship Game, though, along with how the 2017 season shaped out to be.

Backup quarterback Brett Hundley looked lost last year when he filled in for Aaron Rodgers. Some of that goes on the head coach, as well as the play caller, which is McCarthy.

One of the biggest questions that needs answering is why McCarthy waited so long to get rid of Dom Capers as defensive coordinator. The defensive philosophy never changed and teams caught on.

Under the regime, it already looks like they want to bring in the best players, whether it be through the draft or free agency. The roster construction seems to be getting to where it needs to be with or without Rodgers. The buzz around the Green Bay Packers is back.

What happens if the team doesn’t take the next step?

New head coach?

Mike needs to make a convincing case THIS year. No more barely squeaking into the playoffs. Every year, mthe WHEELS COME OFF and we are left scrambing just to qualify.

Fuck you, Mike. Time to put up or shut up.

There are so many things in play here a conspiracy theorist could have a field day. When the Packers gave MM (Mike McCarthy) his 1 year extension they knew Ted Thompson was going to step down and that they were going to promote from within for the next GM spot. Knowing that GM kind of like to choose their own head coach they decided to take that power away from him, at least temporarily so he wouldn't jump the gun so to speak and get rid of MM just to get his own guy. MM gets two years with a new GM knowing that the other MM (Mark Murphy) has control over his future. BG has two years of not having to worry about the head coach. The other MM gets a free year (this year) basically to decide if MM can make the changes to work with BG rather than working with a lame duck head coach. From the way it sounds there will be a big revamping of the offense this year (I will believe it when I see it) and that tells me the the other MM has put MM on notice by saying things had better change or else. I don't think the 1 year extension was anything more than giving the team time to see how things work out without throwing the added pressure of a lame duck head coach into the mix.

If the Packers make the playoffs this year I think MM stays. If they don't I think he may be gone and BG will get a chance to choose his guy or at least will have some major say in the hiring.

Yes, he’s under the gun. I wish he would take on the attitude he had in 2010. He seemed to have a killer passion, which he instilled in the team.
An “us against the world” view.
He seemed to wimp out after that year.
If you don’t have a fire as a coach, you will BE fired as a coach.
His butt is on the hot seat.
Which to me is GOOD. If he feels the flames, maybe he will get it in gear.
