I was a softball pitcher back in the 1980’s. One time I had a line drive come right at my face. I kind of threw up my hand with the glove on it, and just by luck, actually caught the ball!
Had I not caught it, it would have smacked my face.

This is why whenever a pitcher makes a defensive play on the the ball the announcers ALWAYS state he has "cat-like reflexes" even if it's a porker like Bartolo Colon.

The broken nose would have improved his looks. Maybe it would have straightened it out a little.
