Normally the move from starting quarterback to backup is one that represents a step backward for a player, but that might not be the case for DeShone Kizer. Kizer got thrown into the lineup by the Browns after being drafted in the second round last year and predictably struggled as part of a team that [more]

Heard he was missing on alot of his throws. Probably adjusting to the footwork.

Anyone been to OTAs?

From what I read/heard they're reworking his throwing motion and footwork this offseason, I wouldn't expect much until he gets used to it (maybe next year).

Bust. Hundley 2.0.

I don’t know if he can be labeled a “bust” yet. He played last year on the worst team in the NFL. I think any QB would look bad with that team. Especially a rookie.
Now Hundley, I label him a bust. He’s had plenty of chances to show he can do it, and hasn’t done anything for me to show any confidence in him.

I still think Kizer could be a good qb, he has the athleticism of Hundley but he can make all the throws Hundley can't. If he would have stayed at Notre Dame for another year instead of getting thrown into the fire in Cleveland I think people would have a much better impression of him.

Hundley considering he was a 5th round pick its hard to call him a bust, the vast majority of late round qbs don't make it so I'm not sure we should have expected any different. However after that 1st year (preseason) he looked so good I think alot of us had unrealistic expectations. I won't write him off completely still holding out some hope he worked on his downfield throwing this offseason and can impress in preseason again. Even if its just so the Packers can showcase + trade him.

Good points ISO.
I think I put a lot of faith in Hundley because of how much MM kept saying how great he was going to be.
I should have known better!🤣

I thought I saw some Favre in Kizer... and that might not be a good thing.

When the game got close and pressure mounted, Favre often seemed to feel pressured to win it now via making a big play... and Favre would then either win (TD) or lose (INT) the game. That seemed to be the same with Kizer... but he couldn't handle it and often made a huge mistake at the end after a decent game before that.

Experiencing ‘in game’ reps are a huge asset for a quarterback wanting to learn. Ironically, making mistakes is better than having succeeded.
At this point, both Kizer and Hundley have those meaningful ‘in game’ reps to learn from.
From their college experiences, I would have to give Kizer the edge. Further, the number of reps H was given last year, and his suboptimal performance, I will be surprised if he makes the team.

There can be a learning curve in this system.
