First of all, we should change the game to accomodate all 83 other genders. Turning the game into just sitting in a circle discussing our feelings would go a long way towards accomplishing this.

I dislike the nostalgia of yesteryear. If you would go back 30 years ago and talk to the guys and tell them that they were destroying their brains to the point they might be shitting in a diaper and not remembering who their wife is (at age 45), they probably would have asked for new rules too.

The players of today's NFL have never been bigger, stronger, faster, and more intelligent. Oh yeah and they've never been braver, atleast the players of the past can claim ignorance. Today everytime you take the field you know you risk your life (today and after football).

The links you provided are not actual medical journal sites, they are more alike to anti-vaccine propaganda than actual news. The co-author of Wakefield's paper may have been cleared of professional misconduct but Wakefield wasn't (which is why he's no longer a doctor), and his study was never proven accurate (which is why it is no longer published).

Here's an actual accredited publication with fact checked sources:

Wakefield’s Lancet Paper Vindicated, Again

C'mon, man, you can do better than that. (Actually, you can't -- but that's the whole point, right?)

As for the topic of the thread, I've said many times that I'm skeptical of the notion that there's a statistically significant increase in incidence of injury on special teams versus regular play. Given the way the human brain works, the very fact that injuries occurring during kickoff tend to stick out in our memories is probably pretty good evidence of just how rare they actually are. I've been wanting to do a solid statistical study of this topic for several years, but alas, I just don't have the time right now. Maybe I can get a grant to spend a few months looking into this during my fourth year of med school, when my schedule isn't quite so crammed. All the information is readily available. The play-by-plays published on the NFL's own websites show exactly on what plays injuries occur and to whom.

Modern Medical Research (or MMR) is a committee set up and funded by Wakefield and anti-vaccine parents through donations. They took 4 weeks to look at all the evidence (provided to them by Wakefield) and determined that he was innocent of all charges and should have his medical license re-instated immediately.

So basically people think big pharma is poisoning everyone and using their money to hush people up, but see no problem with someone founding their own committee stacked with people that agree with them on a single, narrow issue, and then miraculously agree with the person they already agree with that's paying them money.

That's about as useful as me paying my wife and all my friends to form a committee to look into my life and determine whether I'm a swell guy or not.

What's so ironic is that the latest research  shows that children with autism (and their siblings) are less likely than children in the general population to be vaccinated.
