That's a weird stat but Aaron Jones is very good.

Yep back up RB Aaron Jones. McCarthy couldn't wait for Williams to show something so he could make him the starter and I like Williams but Jones is a lot better. McCarthy is weird about RBs he did the same with Montgomery/Shields for a bit last year, he has a preference and will stick with his guy no matter how much better another guy looks.

Yards gained after CLOSE? who made up that stat, Really. So with all the delay draws that this team runs, it means there is a good chance there is a defender within a yard of him at hand off.

I don't get that stat either but IMHO they are judging that AFTER he has crossed the line of scrimmage.

According to the article Mr. Koh posted at NFL.com , yards gained after close (YGAC) "is a stat that helps isolate individual elusiveness as it measures yards collected by a ball carrier after a defender closes to within one yard."

I can't even begin to imagine the amount of film watching that must go into amassing a statistic like that. Or is it all done by automated three-dimensional triangulation algorithms these days? There are enough cameras on the field to accomplish such an analysis, as we see when the networks show off their fancy 3D views, in which they use interpolative techniques to move individual players around within the image like chess pieces.

Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : The spotting of the ball IS the issue. Not the chain gang.

Zero2Cool (1-Apr) : uh oh
Martha Careful (1-Apr) : Too bad camera's can't spot the ball as well.
Mucky Tundra (1-Apr) : So will the chain gang be gone completely or will they still be around as a backup or whatever?
Zero2Cool (1-Apr) : The method for measuring first downs in the NFL will switch from chain gangs to camera-based technology in 2025, the league announced.
