there are so many factors that go into whether or not this is a "good" trade - including the fact that favre is doing a great job. however, if he had been a complete bust, we'd all be kissin tt's hiney & saying what an AWESOME gm he is. i think if brett is truly happy where he is, then good for him & i'm happy for him. i don't think after everything that transpired in the off season that he would be happy in gb - even if he was a starter. it's obvious that feelings were seriously hurt on both sides. all i know is i wouldn't want to play for someone who didn't want me there.

All I know is I'm enjoying Favre and the Jets beat up on the Titans. (so far)

So I know jets won't make it SB, so we're probably getting a 2nd at the most.

Nope, I mean yes they did beat the best team in the NFL, but I don't see the jets winning it all. I do wish them all the best, it's my opinion, I'm not saying that my opinion is correct also.

As per the trade. I'd bet my left testicle that we trade it into more picks. Not because its Ted's "thing", but because that pick will be compared to Brett for years.

Who was the guy the 49ers selected with the Joe Montana pick? My guess is very few people know. I wouldn't be surprised if the pick is traded for multiple lower picks, but I don't think it would be for the reason you stated.

As for the pick itself, now that it's likely at least a 2nd rounder, it was absolutely a good deal in terms of fair value. Just looking at what other players have netted a team in terms of draft picks, I think it's tough to argue that a 2nd rounder isn't market value or higher for a QB that may only play 1-2 years.

Convenient how you don't mention the fact that there's this little thing called the internet and another little fact that the media swarms over things like this.

btw, didn't the 49ers trade that pick?

if brett favre is so good, then why didn't we trade for a solid first round?

The Packers may end up getting a first round pick for brett, the jets look pretty strong right now.

I thought this was common knowledge, but in order for a trade to happen there has to be two willing parties. This means, if the team getting said player does not want to give up a 1st round pick, you will not get a 1st round pick. Kapeesh?

Some assume the 49ers gave up only Montana to get their 1st rounder...

49ers got = Chiefs 93 1st rounder
Chiefs got = David Whitmore, 94 third rounder and Joe Montana

One often forgets that Green Bay also managed to save the $12M contract which allows them to sign many of their young talented players long term. Green Bay most likely would be better with Brett right now on the field, but one must look at the economics of this organization moving forward and securing our young cornerstones of the franchise (ie Rodgers, Jennings, Hawk, etc.)

I don't believe anyone would have offered a 1st rounder. I recall GB being pretty firm that they wanted a first rounder, but reports indicated that wasn't going to happen.

I think Thompson got the best deal he could have and also traded him to the right team that wouldn't hurt the Packers.

Now more than ever you have to wonder whether or not the deal should have made. Nothing against Rodgers, but the oppurtunity was there for the Packers to make a run and that surely would have been greater with Favre.

I agree, I dont see the Jets being a Super Bowl team as of yet, if Brett sticks around for one more year then maybe next year.
