Overtime , the rules changed and could change again . The current overtime rules , IMO , should be changed. I favor the way it is done on the college level, except teams begin at the 50 yard line. It eliminates the dangers of kicking off and the possible concussion injuries . Additionally , starting at midfield does not automatically place teams in field goal range . Scoring rules would be the same as the college level with the exception that following the 1st round , each team will be required to go for the 2 point conversion instead of the 1 point PAT . If still tied after 3 rounds , the tie stands .

Hate the college system because it removes special teams (except FG). If you want to remove the kick-off then lets just get rid of it. The team winning the coin flip gets to choose offense or defense. The team starting with the ball gets it on the 25 just like there was a touchback and they play. If the team with the ball gets into FG range and scores they win. If not, they have to punt, and they go back and forth just like regulation.

I would like to take the coin flip out of the OT equation.
Let's hear some ideas about how this could be done.

I would like to see the team that is on defense when time runs out to take to offense where the ball is spotted when regulation time runs out.
If they score, the opposing team gets the ball on their 20 and gets 4 plays involving no punts to score.
If they don't score more points game over.
I'm open to any variation that does not include a coin flip to start OT.

I don't think there is a way to get rid of the coin toss. Perhaps do an OT toss right after the original toss so they don't have to do the dog and pony show twice.

May 23rd - The NFL Owners decided today to reduce the time allotted for overtime from 15 to 10 minutes . All other existing OT rules still remain in effect . [cheers]

Seriously??? About "player safety"?
So cutting 5 minutes off of overtime will prevent a concussion, or a torn up knee?

I guess then we should change the 4 quarters of a game from 15 minutes long to 5 minutes long. THAT would cut down on injuries, right?
And while we are at it.....no more tackling. Make it FLAG football.
