It appears center J.C. Tretter's tenure with the Packers is on the verge of ending. The free agent-to-be has drawn interest from at least seven other teams at the combine this week and figures to price himself out of Green Bay on the open market, reports Michael Cohen of the Milwaukee Journal Sentintel. Its an unfortunate push-pull Tretter out of GB situation.

Pull: Tretter is an all pro player that can start and I'm sure he doesn't want to back-up in GB when he can start for 20 other teams.

Push: with 4 trips to IR in 4 years, he hasn’t shown he can stay healthy for 7 games in a row. GB cant pay him starter $$$ and/or rely on him to start. There is no way that GB can match the offers he's gonna get.

And of course these things happen every day; every decision proper and rock solid. But in hindsight, one out of 20 or 30 or 100 of these things dont work out; the dice are rolled planning for a 7 and its snake eyes. If Linsley gets hurt and Tretter is 1st team all pro, the McGinnists will go ape crap on Ted without mention of the other 72 correct decisions in hindsight. Like Hayward last year, no one said peep until our CBs resembled a mash unit. So, if the decision to sign or not sign Tretter is a bad one, then the bitch rant must come now, because bitch ranting about things in hindsight just makes one a ranting bitch McGinnist.

Depending on the price, I might sign Tretter. He has experience at Guard and could be a replacement for Lang who is going to get much more on the open market. having Tretter under contract would then put the team in better position heading into contract talks with Linsley.

I'd rather pay bonus for Lang an have a solid starting five than a high priced back-up who will (in a best case scenario) not play.

I think the Packers need to occasionally pay big money to one of there guys so the other players they are willing to pay for performance.

Barfarn, it's true that hindsight is 20/20. Second guessing is easy when you know the result.
I think a lot of times people don't say anything until something crashes and burns, is that we tend to trust that the higher ups in the pro game know more then we do, that they know what they are doing. When it ends up as a disaster, that's when people come forward and say what they think.
Like with me, I was questioning Ted letting all our D-backs go in free agency. I was kind of ticked off that he did so. But I held my tongue, trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. Then of course we saw the resulting self destruction of our defense.
As a unit, maybe some of the guys he let walk would have played better on our team, knowing the other guys around them.
Going to a new team with different players can make a HUGE difference in results.
Look at guys like Greg Jennings. He was REALLY good when he was here, but was a non factor when he went to another team.
It matters who is playing along side you.
