The Packers had some "minor" distractions heading into Dallas with some off the field stuff. Now, the Falcons appear to have a MAJOR distraction on their hands. The architect of their high flying offense can't wait to get out of there and off to his HC gig in Frisco. Mike Silver of NFLN is reporting that Shanahan is "almost certain" to take the Niners job.

I can't help but be reminded of what some Packers fans thought when we lost to SF in SF which was Holmgren's last game with us. Some felt he was already in his new job and didn't care about the Packers anymore. We can only hope the same is said of Shanahan after his offense underperforms against our toasted cheese defense and we move on.

A big distraction... not quite so big...or none at all heading into Sunday for the Falcons?

Can't help but believe it's quite large as he absolutely has to be thinking about assembling his staff along with preparing for the Packers which makes him doubleminded opposed to solely focused on us not that beating our D should take a whole lot of thought but it should help with him pondering moves he needs to make when he's finished in ATL.

I give very little credit to "Distractions". Its only an issue when players/coaches have to talk to the media, and that is always a distraction so it is just a different question being asked. When in meetings, and in practice they don't give it a second thought.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

very little distraction. One of the things that make some people good HC candidates is their ability to handle distractions. Mark my words though, when the Falcons lose a lot of people will be pointing their fingers at Shanahan and saying it was all his fault.

This distraction is a different kind of distraction. It's knowing that someone who made you successful is abandoning ship on you. The distraction is likely more self contained within Shanahan himself and or all the assistants he's going to try and take with them. Not many distractions are of the variety of thinking of you getting more money, power, etc. This distraction truly does take away from what's at hand. It can't possibly not.

About as big a distraction as two of our executives receiving second interviews with the 49ers.

For the team, I don't think it's a distraction at all (unless he's talked to certain people about going to SF with him (ie other coaches) or maybe if they want to go with him to SF), but this could be a distraction for the man himself. I don't think anyone on the outside could possibly know how much or how little that it is effecting him.

Though from my extremely limited understanding of how they run things is he sits down and finds players to target and how to best destroy the weakest links.... which I don't think will be that hard to do on this Packers defense right now... at least not in the passing game, running game might be a bit tougher. So I don't think that this distracting for him will have much impact because the flaws are fairly clear, the execution of the plays and maybe the play calling at high pressure moments are the only real hard parts...

like the Cowboys play caller fell into the NFL play caller trap on the final drive, of wanting to pass the ball too much in this pass happy league instead of keeping it balanced or sticking with what got you there (running the ball)...

That could happen to the Falcons, but it's less likely since they're much better at the passing game and being balanced.

beast (8h) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (8h) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (18h) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (18h) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (20h) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (21h) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22h) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22h) : Thank you
wpr (22h) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (22h) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (22h) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22h) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22h) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (23h) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (23h) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (23h) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (23h) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
