I really don't think he has the size, or at least effectively uses the size for it. Lacy and Starks can hit LBs and get that extra yard or three one on one. In a pile, they can push through bodies. Against anything other than a CB, Monty has and will be going right down - our failed attempts to punch it into the end zone are great examples.

Ripowski has the heft but not the speed. Monty has the speed but not the heft.

Even then there are different types of RBs and not all of them are pile movers and goal line type backs. Montgomery looks like a fantastic 3rd down/ change of pace type with big play upside. I don't see any reason to poo on him as a RB just because he's not the 3 down bell cow type power back. The simple fact of the matter is Montgomery lined up in the backfield = a bonus to our offense.

Given his talent and ability to play both RB and WR, could Montgomery be bigger and more powerful yet a little slower version of Darren Sproles?

I'm more then happy with what he did yesterday. He was a FORCE on the field, and a threat as a RB or receiver.
He earned his pay yesterday, as did Adams.
