You don't have to read the articles linked and can continue spouting the tired old unproven again and again cliche if you'd like to. Defense DOES NOT win championships. Every single SuperBowl EVER was WON because OFFENSE scored. If defense truly won championships we'd have a ton of low scoring games. We don't. The examining of that old tired cliche has proven to be false since the first time I saw it be put under the light in the mid 90's. It was wrong then, wrong now, and forever wrong. READ THE ARTICLES. Your subjective feeling and desire to believe something you've heard on TV forever doesn't make something true. It is false.

Everything does.

Look at the Broncos last season. Their defense carried the team! Their offense was just so-so.

Fact is, you NEED both! Like I said before, look at the Packers 15-1 season. They scored like mad! But when it came down to playing against teams that had BOTH, they lost. If they had had even a DECENT defense, they probably would have won it all. But they couldn't stop anyone.

Aaron Rodgers hasn't played so far, but this "we're going to run the ball" philosophy has to be a joke. You have arguably the greatest passer in NFL history and you're going to work hard to run the ball? You trust the OL and Eddie and James more than you do Aaron Rodgers? Again, this has to be a joke. Our OL is not a great running line. Who on our line is a great run blocker? Linsley? Sure isn't Bakhtiari or Sitton. Lang is okay and Bulaga is better at run than pass. Any offensive philosophy that willfully stifles Aaron's arm is out of touch with reality. He's early 30's not late. I'm all for trying this when he's 39 and we have some road graders up front but now now with a weak running line and the best pure thrower in the game.

I'm hoping that this is a ruse and we open it up in Jax and bomb them mercilessly as it will likely be that kind of game with their aerial attack.

Yeah I guess Lang is "Just ok"

The Packers flex the league’s best interior with guards Josh Sitton, T.J. Lang and center Corey Linsley. Each graded out in the top 10 at their positions, with Sitton and Lang cracking the top six,

With a healthy and trim Eddie Lacy heading into this year, Packers fans should expect big things from the big boys up front in 2016

Rank	Team	Overall Grade	Rush Grade	Pass Grade	Regulars Returning
1	Dallas Cowboys	A-	A	A-	5
2	Cincinnati Bengals	A-	A-	A-	4
3	Pittsburgh Steelers	B+	B+	B+	5
4	Atlanta Falcons	B+	B	B+	3
5	Arizona Cardinals	B+	B	A-	3
6	New Orleans Saints	B	B	B+	4
7	Oakland Raiders	B	B	B+	4
8 Green Bay Packers	B	B-	B	5

You don't get that kind of rating by being lousy in run protection.
I saw several places where one of the beginning comments was something to the effect of: "The Packers’ offensive line received a bad reputation last year, mostly due to poor play by Don Barclay when others were sidelined by injuries."

that was with "Fat Elvis" at RB . Their run protection should rank better this year.

If an opposing defense knows that you are passing (on any down), they will as the phrase goes "pin their ears back and blitz the house" because they don't respect the run . In addition, all QB's are taught , and correctly so , that they have 3 seconds to throw a pass . No Offensive line in the league is expected to protect their QB longer than that, yet the better ones sometimes do .

In that 3 seconds , while the QB seeks a target and the O-line is protecting him, the WR's must get open . If they take longer than 3 seconds get open, the QB is then put in the bad place of having no one to throw to as he is most likely loosing his protection. This is generally a very bad thing and can force a QB out of his protective pocket and scrambling for his life looking for a receiver . This happened all to often last season .

With a running attack, opposing defenses can't be 100% sure that any given play is going to be a pass or a run . As a result, they must respect the run or they could get burned . This respect reduces the amount of players a defense sends to blitz your QB. Also, a running attack is a very good thing to have when you need to eat time off the clock with running plays that get chunks of yardage and produce 1st downs .

A BALANCED Offensive attack keeps an opposing defense guessing about what to expect next . It places the offense in charge on the field instead of the defense dictating the game as they want it to be.

Yes, scoring points is very important, but stopping the other team from scoring can be a little more important. How many games have we seen where a team can win if they can drive to within FG range ? How often do we see a defense step up and stop them to win the game , or fail and see the game lost in the final moments .

There are many scenarios that illustrate the importance of a strong defense to championship teams .
Some just can't get passed the instant results of the passing game to see the bigger picture. They just can't seem to be able to see the forest for the trees ! [whead]

Lang and Sitton have been dominated for years at Detroit. These top flight guards couldn't possibly be destroyed like that year after year if they were really that good.

Smoke... nobody said balance wasn't important. Balance being important won't change that defense wins championships isn't true.

If u really thought this was true then all TTs minions wouldn't be his minions because he's had a terrible time assembling an average defense. O will remain good with a HOF at QB but D has never been close to what it needs to be. That's the true balance we need.
