That implies their is a set line of what is or isn't offense... which often times is not always true. What's offensive and what's not is an opinion and as we all know, different people have different opinions.

One thing I was ignorant on was Redskins. I had NO CLUE it was considered offensive until all this stuff blew up.

If I were to start a sports team and named it the "Niggers" or the "White Crackers" or the "Slant eyes" , it would never be tolerated. Yet because the "Redskins" name is grandfathered in from an era when "White Only" was common in many parts of America, we are supposed to accept and overlook the fact that it is and was a racial slur against Native Americans.

There is a great difference between names like Blackhawks, Chiefs, Indians, and Braves that celebrate the Native American and names that offend, to make some feel like they are better than others. People that still look down upon others due to race or religion or a disability are beyond ignorant and need to change .

The Washington NFL team needs to change and make their offensive racial slur of a team name a part of the past and accept a little financial loss in favor of a future that uplifts, instead of degrades.

If you don't understand bigotry , racism , and just plain trashy behavior is, then you may be guilty by ignorance and need to get yourself better educated. Such bad behavior hurts all, but it especially hurts those that continue to think that way.

Also overlooking the fact that it wasn't original a racist term... they refereed to different groups by the color of their skin and you had the whites, blacks and reds and sometimes it'd be the whiteskins, the blackskins and the redskins.

Another fact that's overlooked is that one tribe used to be known as the redskin tribe because they would wear red face and body paint... that tribe today is called the Delaware Indians, which as the name suggest... were relatively close to Washington D.C.

The Washington team is not acting in bigotry or racism... they (most likely) choose a mascot they thought was cool and they could sell and would represent their team well... not negatively. I'm sure some would say they failed, but they're rocking the term in the most positive light they can.
