If Ted factors need, then it's more like future need. His patern is positions whose contracts will be up the next year or two. He took Raji and Clay that year to switch to the 3-4, so that's one exception.

A guy like Perry, though, seemed like a bad fit for a 3-4 defense from the start. I very much doubt that (for our team) he was the BPA. Then, from the 2nd round on, he seems to pick more in line with who the BPA seems to be and not so much at a position we need. Picks like Daniels, Hayward and Manning.
Maybe none of it is true, of course, but I do feel like need seems to weigh a lot more in the first than in the other rounds.
