Malik Jackson deal worth up to $90 million, $42 million fully guaranteed
....
Jackson is signing a six-year deal worth $85.5 million with another $4.5 million available in playing time incentives at the back end of the contract. Of that total payout, $45 million comes in the first three years and $42 million is guaranteed with Klis reporting that the guarantees cover both skill and injury.
That $15 million a year average pushes Jackson to the top tier of defensive linemen in the NFL in terms of compensation. If he plays like a member of that tier as well, the Jaguars will have taken a big step toward their first winning record since 2007.
That's one heck of a contract for just a good player. I know the Jags have to spend to get to the salary cap floor, but deals like this are what going to put them in cap hell a few years down the road.
Don't get me wrong, Malik Jackson is a good player, but they're paying nearly double what the Broncos paid Derek Wolfe (4 yrs, $36 million, $17.5 million guaranteed), while they're both on the same skill level.
Makes Mike Daniels contract seem rather good, as well (4 yrs, $41 million, $12 million guaranteed).
