The article is a lot different than the post. Correlate the "how much?" with the "when?" and you get a picture of the Packers D really shutting down K.C. when Matthews was almost exclusively a ILB, and K.C. making a comeback and gaining a bunch of yardage when Clay went to OLB more often. Maybe that wasn't the whole story, but it certainly correlated. Thomas seemed to do a good job at ILB, but maybe he can't cover like Matthews. Several times, you could see both ILBs tipping it off that they were blitzing; They didn't quite get there in time, and Smith hit a receiver right there in the obvious place where an ILB needs to be in coverage. A blitz that ALMOST gets there is kinda like a hand in poker that is ALMOST good enough to win - a minor or sometimes major disaster.
I'm thinking Capers opened it up with the big lead and let them deviate from what got the job done in the first half - let Clay have his fun at OLB, bring in some back ups, do some experimenting. That cost us style points but NOT the win, and hopefully it will provide some benefits down the road in knowing more about what works and who can do what.
