A conservative categorization of the current 87-man roster would show 24 players as locks to make the 53-man roster, 12 as good bets, 30 on the fence and 21 as long shots.

Interesting Article.

Raji is a lock? Maybe even though I don't like it. Mike Neal? NO WAY!

Correct about the difficult decisions, although that's a helluva lot better than the alternative.

Mike Neal's ability to play multiple positions makes him an asset this year. Next year we'll see if another guy is ready to step up and take his place. maybe it happens during the season but I don't think it would be wise to cut Neal at this time.

There is no team in the NFL that doesn't have difficult decisions every single year.

Curious if Ted Thompson finally gives up on ANOTHER of his 1st round busts, Nick Perry?

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

It's very possible. I feel bad for a kid to an extent, but this is the NFL, and you've got to be available. It's that simple. He may just begin the season with another designation and see how he progresses, but from my vantage point it doesn't look good.

Making a 53 usually seems a lot tougher a week into preseason than it is after the 4th week. Things will start sorting themselves out after the next few weeks.

Making a 53 now is probably tougher because the fear of cutting someone who can contribute more than keeping someone who can't. We worry more about "what if we cut this guy and he turns out to be a stud" than we do "what if I keep this guy and he turns out to be a dud" We all want our last roster guys to contribute but they are the last men in line so to speak. If they are duds hopefully we may never find out. If they are studs however, they could end up outplaying our starters and that's what we don't want to lose.

If I am not mistaken the first round of cuts will be after this next one. That should clarify the picture a lot as far as who is really in a battle.

I think whether Kuhn or Ripkowski makes it will depend a lot on how Ripkowski looks in pass protection over the next game or two. As popular as Kuhn is, I really think it's the end of the line for him.
