We've been hearing more and more about how 2015, 3rd round draft pick, Ty Montgomery, has been impressing everybody from fans, to teammates, to the coaching staff. With the interest building in the young wide receiver from Stanford, we are brought to the question of what are the realistic expectations for Montgomery this season? Today

I expected "Monty" to be used as a return man and maybe a few gimmicky plays from the LOS but more and more it looks like he could be the #4 receiver.
It didn't seem like he was a solid receiver, at least hands wise, coming out of college.

I learned to do that from Z2C.

After previewing it looks like I need more learnin but what the hell.

Michael Rodney tweeted some positive impressions of him and he's one guy I trust due to following him and his track record.

My best case expectation for him is he's a fabulous KR and PR and is our 3rd WR over Adams who I think he is better than. Why do I think that when I haven't seen Ty except for family night? Montgomery was a likely 1st rounder had he come out after his JR year. He waited and didn't have a great SR. year due to QB play from what I've read. So, had he left as a JR. he would've been a much more highly rated prospect than Davante. Plus, Ty is a Stanford kid...bright...and he's built like a machine. Heck, I flashed to Sterling Sharpe the first time I saw him on the field Family Night. Kid should be wearing 84.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

My original expectation for Montgomery was low - not top 2 or 3 or 4 punt returners and maybe 6th or 5th among WRs. He hopefully will be a top flight kick returner, but that job is less important with the kicking location moved up.

I still don't see him returning punts, but I see him as high as 3rd WR this season and eventually a possible star-quality player.

Obviously he is getting the positive press that has me excited. I'll admit originally my expectation was that I wouldn't regret the WR(s) that we lose when we drafted him and that our pick could have been spent on another spot like TE or a higher ranked ILB on the board.

Definitely nice to see a quick development should an injury happen to one of the top 2 guys. Thanks Ted for looking at a smart kid.

I was projecting him as a HB! His route running skills are much smoother than I had anticipated, at least by all reports. I'd like to see him do this consistently against starters though. TC is one thing, you're often going up against scrubs. We shall see.

My hope is that he plays as well as Adams did last year. Ted has an impressive draft history with WRs. That's just his niche apparently.

They're just TC reports, but still, the guy sounds like an MVP coming our of 2 weeks of camp, and assuming the reports are pseudo accurate, the depth he'll provide could be critical at some point this year. Hell, if he plays like he sounds, he'll be a great asset all year.

dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
