This kid has received past and current praise from MM. We have a kid we traded up for and Tolzien has been in our system longest.

What are we going to do if Blanchard clearly outplays Tolzien and Hundley? There is no way we're keeping all 4 QB's and leaving Blanchard and especially Hundley on the PS is a recipe for them to go elsewhere.

Here's what I think happens IF Blanchard is the star of the backups this TC and preseason. I think Hundley makes the 53 as the 3rd and Tolzien gets cut. Ain't no way Hundley is getting served up after being traded up for.

Blanchard, if clearly better than Tolzien, is going to force Tolzien's ouster and will be our backup QB.

Of course, Blanchard may suck, but if he's the best of the backups you can kiss Scotty T. goodbye.

BTW, I hope Blanchard is just good...I don't want him to be elite. 😁

It's a good question, and one I've thought of the more we've read about Hundley being a big disappointment heretofore in camp.

I sense MM has a lot of faith in Tolzien and sees him as a big investment of his energy over the past few years that he's not willing to just let go for nothing.

As you said, I'd suspect Hundley would get swept up in an instant off the PS, maybe Blanchard less likely depending on how he looks on tape the next month.

If you believe the reports to this point, though, it's going to be awfully hard to justify keeping Hundley on the 53.

This is the reason for my post. You have a lot of interesting moving parts as to roster spots at QB. I hate that we're going to keep 3 because we'll lose out on a much better player elsewhere. It's a given we're keeping 3, UNLESS Hundley proves something in pre-season...then, I can see Tolzien getting cut and Blanchard put on the PS.

To me...backup QB now becomes a very interesting position to watch IF Blanchard plays well and Hundley plays poorly.

The Packers saw how crucial depth at QB was just 20 months ago, so I think that makes the case even stronger for keeping Tolzien. He may not be a stud, but who would you trust the most of the three for the 2015 season if it came to that? Unless he absolutely shits himself (there you go nerdmann) I think Tolzien stays.

As of OTAs and 4 camp practices, it seems like a rock/hard place dilemma with the other two, though.

You're right, we can't afford to waste roster spots. Kuhn and Ripkowski, the LB situation, Gunter and the CBs - those will all be really tight battles as well for the 53...but man, I really was (still am?) hoping to see what Hundley can become.

The lower ranked guy is gonna get reps against the lower level D and thus, is gonna tend to look better.

Blanchard will go to the practice squad, and it's extremely likely no one will grab him. He will have the benefit of learning like Packer QBs do. If he really is any good, next year will be his time to challenge Tolzien. I don't know what to make of Hundley. He can't be strung along long enough to succeed Aaron Rodgers; He might end up as trade bait; I hope they get a little bit of benefit from him in the short term by cross-training him or using him as a "slash" type player.

With blanchards injury history I just dont really see any realistic way hes the top back up unless tolzien gets hurt. Hes also the most likely to be able to get onto the practice squad.
