Disagree. Not only are Neal and Crockett scrubs, but their skill sets do not differ substantively from Lacy and Starks, inside power runners. No reason they can't use Cobb/Monty in the backfield if necessary. They've also gone ahead and used Kuhn at times.

The TEs are also hybrid H-back types.

Not enough roster spots on this team.

But I do agree that it doesn't make sense to keep a #3 RB just because. Only keep one if the roster spot is earned. Otherwise, just use the practice squad.

There's plenty of roster spots - see my projection in at least one other thread.

I don't agree with the need to have 3 RBs. It may happen if more than one of the young guys stand out, but it's not a necessity. I'm not all that sold on the idea of giving Starks another year. IMO, he needs to beat out Neal, Crockett, and Harris - all of whom are younger and cheaper. They may all turn out to be nothings - Starks better hope that is the case.

I agree with this if Nerd's dream scenario happens and Tolzien is cranking our offense. He's going to be wearing out our RB's and we're going to need a 3rd.

Nerd, I don't understand how you don't agree...3 RB's would be key to your desired offensive performance with Scotty T.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

Think last season its been proven that picking up RBs off the street mid season they can perform adequately.

Stick with the extra WR

When is the last time a team went with only 2 RBs for a while season? When is the last time the Packers went with only 2 RBs? I think only having two RBs is stupid... RBs often get banged up... Starks has played 14 games once in his 5 NFL years and even though Lacy played in 16 games this last year, he has been banged up every NFL season and I think he was unable to finish a game last season with his ankle injury (or his asthma breathing problems), I just remember Starks and Kuhn having to finish a game because Lacy was out.

Are they going to move Cobb or Montgomery to RB? I don't think so... so they will need another 3rd RB even if it's Kuhn or Ripkowski but they need a 3rd guy who can play RB and run through the tackles if injuries happen. And I think it will be RB Rajion Neal who arguable outplayed DuJuan Harris last training camp before his injury (RB getting banged up again).

When GB builds a roster about the last 5 spots go to the best guys regardless of position that they dont think will make it to PS or last there very long. So, a 10-11th db, 4th TE, 6th WR, 6-7th DL, 9-10th OL, 3rd QB, 3-4th RB, 10-12th LB etc all compete amongst one other for those last few spots.

If we have no preseason injuries and a bunch of guy shine like Abby, Ringo, Joe Thomas, Hubbard, Vujonovich, Rotherram, Backman, Ripkowski , thornton, Gunter, TGW, Fanor, etc It'll be a crime to cut and LOSE a real player w/ potential for a less than JAG RB.

I'll be surprised if GB kept only 2 RBs; especially because as Beast points out Starks is not the bastion of health. But Lacy is tough we dont have to worry about him [in Det game last year, Suh broke Lacy's Jaw. Lacy took his shoe lace and wired his jaw shut and to breathe he gave himself a tracheotomy, jamming a card board core from a used roll of trainer's tape in the tracheotomy opening and missed only one play] it's possible they go with 2 on roster and 2 on PS if Neal, Crockett et al dont show much in preseason. If disaster strikes like 2013 Cincy game and Lacy and Starks go down; Kuhn, Cobb and Monty will get you thru the game until the next week when the RBs that have been practicing w/ the team all along are called up.

Lacy's asthma only acts up in the cold weather, so come Novemberish, the roster will require 3 RBs; but by that time someone will be on IR and the opening could go to 3rd RB.
