I have a feeling I know why we work as wait staff in a bar.

For those of you that are lousy tippers, take heed.

Personally, I think it is Ted's fault. Bastard!

I agree.
I bet Ted MADE him tip only $30.
You DO realize a team's GM controls 100% of what a football player does, even on his own time.......yeah....THATS it!!!LOLOLOL!!!
(I know you were kidding Trippster......in case anyone reads my response and thinks it's meant towards you!)

There's no law that says you have to tip ANYTHING. But if the service was good, it shows class to tip decently.
Last week i read in "Dear Abbey" (I'm gonna catch crap for admitting that) where someone asked what was correct to tip. If the service was great she said 20%. And, if you couldn't afford a decent tip, you shouldn't be eatting at the place. That last line kind of ticked me off. I and my wife don't go out to "fancy" places very often, as we can't afford it. (My idea of "fancy" is where we would drop $50 between the 2 of us) We do that maybe once or twice a year. If the service was good I'll tip 15%, as thats about the most i can afford. I know the wait staff works on mostly tips, and i worked at a couple of restaurants when i was young. If i could afford it, i would LOVE to tip lots more. But sometimes i just don't have it.
Rich people SHOULD give a tip based on the quality of service, as they have the "disposable income".
If i had the money, and left $30 on a $800 bill, i'd be embarrassed. Thats not even a 4% tip. But thats just me.

"Cheesey" wrote:

Tipping is not just for rich people Cheesey. I agree with Abbey. If you cannot afford to leave the 20% tip for good service then you really should re evaluate if spending the cash to eat there is a financially prudent decision in the first place. It is simply the cost of eating out.

Personally, I would much rather spend the money from the nice restaurant on a much nicer meal that I would cook myself. For $50 I can make an outrageously nice dinner with drinks!

Sound like Arod was the one that paid the bill so that is why he was singled out and responsible. Maybe he thought the service was horrendous. IF that were the case then he should have also said something to the manager. But an $800 dollar bill for a bunch of drunks deserves a $160 tip.

On the other hand, I guess it is also depended on the AMOUNT of service is required. If I ordered an $800 bottle of Champagne and all the waiter did was bring the bottle and 4 glasses, do they deserve $160 for the walk to the cooler and back? I think not.

So I wuess I am playing both sides of this issue. I see it from everyone's point of view.

I shall now run for some type of office. I have become a politician. :cyclopsani:

Thats why i said we only go out once or so a year.
Most of the time it IS me making the meal. I am a GREAT cook, and can make just about anything. But once or maybe twice a year it's nice to be the one waited on, and not have to wash the dishes when i'm done.
I usually leave more then 15% anyway.
My wife likes my cooking better then most restaurants anyway. But it is nice to be "pampered" (i now wait for the photo shopped one of me in a diaper) once in awhile.

Take it easy. This is a message board. Just because something is posted here does not make it true. I do respect Zombie and tend to believe what he says but where are the facts?
Zombie you say you know it to be true. Did Bill stiff you or someone in your family? One of your friends? Has he given a press release to that effect telling people not to expect a handout from him? Has someone followed him around and watched how much he gave to waitresses over a month's time?
I suppose I am being a bit of a :pottytrain2: over this but to go off without meeting the man is just not right.

Whoa. I can't believe I missed this.

OK, whole story? Got an hour? Just kidding. I'll make it short.

I used to work in Bellevue, Washington. Bellevue is the next town down from Redmond where Microsoft is based.

We were regulars at three different places, so much that at one, we were given Christmas gifts by one of the owners. We were known as not only generous tippers, but I always flirted with the waitresses and they flirted back. Good clean fun, nothing more than that.

Anyways, later I found out that my hunting partner's wife worked in one of the restaurants we frequented as a cook. Weird how it's a small world.

So we got to talking to the waiters and waitresses and heard the same story from all three of the places mentioned (I won't say their names for obvious reasons).

Then years later, find out my hunting partner's wife worked in one of the restaurants and heard the same story from her.

It doesn't surprise me though as Microsoft is cheap. They overwork and underpay their employees something terrible. I had a job offer from there that I thought was downright insulting. I really wish I told them off instead of politely declining like I did. I hate companies that treat people like that, and that obviously came from the top.

What a dick.

By the way, have horror stories from Microsoft employees about how they run them into the ground but that's going off topic. You don't have to overwork and underpay employees to get rich. Google and Larry Ellison are plenty rich and they pay their employees. You'd be surprised how much my friend at Google makes.

I don't understand why people think just because someone has lots of money they should throw it around like they have an endless amount.

"IronMan" wrote:

How much money someone has, has nothing to do with it. They should have tipped according to the service they received. $30 on a $800 tab isn't right.

"Zero2Cool" wrote:

Unless the service was shit, in which case 30 on a 800 dollar tab is fine. You've only heard one side of the story.
