While round one gets most of the attention, round two has been where general manager Ted Thompson has done some of his best work. In fact, you could make a compelling argument that 3 of last season’s 5 best players (wide receivers Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson and running back Eddie Lacy) were originally selected in that particular part of the draft. And so were Pro Bowl wide receiver Greg Jennings and All-Pro safety Nick Collins, who might still be the third-best player ever drafted by Thompson.

Other solid players picked in round two include guard Daryn Colledge, defensive end turned outside linebacker Mike Neal, cornerback Casey Hayward and emerging wide receiver Davante Adams. Another wide receiver, Terrence Murphy, looked like the real deal before suffering a career-ending neck injury in his rookie season.

My favorite part was at the end:

What does all this mean? It means there’s a good chance the first player selected today will wind up being better than defensive back Damarious Randall, who went 30th overall on Thursday night.

I still like the pick.

I'm hoping that Ted takes all our Saturday picks that can be moved and uses them to get one or two extra 2nd/3rd rounders. I would love to leave the draft with 6 players, Randall, 2-2nds, 1-3rd and our two Saturday Comp picks.

Packfanwith twins....we all know that won't happen! Ted treats his picks like GOLD!
He won't give them up to move up, unless a gun is held to his head!
(Don't do it!!!!!) LOL!

Two 2nds and a 3rd is almost impossible, what do you give up to get a 2nd round pick? We don't have enough picks to move up. Trading a player would be an option but Thompson has never done that. The only player that comes to my mind is Starks he is probably worth a 2nd round pick for some teams but we have tried to shop him around last year without success and we are thin behind Lacy if we shop him.

Somebody mentioned in another thread. Where are we going to fit 9 rookies on this team? We are not in the position of needing quantity, we need better quality.

If you get 9 players you have a higher probability to find 4 or 5 worth the team.
If you only pick 5/6 players then you need more luck.

I still don't see how to pick another 2nd round pick.

Yeah, that great 2nd round...can't wait for the next Jerrel Worthy (a trade up...TT was sure), Pat Lee, or Mike Neal. the only good defensive picks to come from R2 in TT's tenure were Nick Collins and Casey Hayward and we haven't seen enough of Hayward yet.

If he goes O we might have a chance at getting a good player. I want Tevin Coleman if he doesn't go to Dallas who I think is going to nab him. Or... Maxx Williams. For the love of, don't take another bust defender. We've had too many of those already.

My gut says he reaches for Paul Dawson because he'll be the only noteworthy ILB on the board due to his 4.9+ 40.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."
