Hawk had the worst season of his nine-year career, and according to Pro Football Focus, ranked 52nd out of the NFL's top 60 inside linebackers. The previous year, Hawk ranked 47th out of 55 inside linebackers.

Barring a colossal upset, the disappointing duo will both be released and the Packers will save $7.25 million against the salary cap. And when 2015 arrives, Green Bay will have a new batch of inside linebackers to go to battle with.

Not buying moving Matthews back to OLB full time. After watching him at ILB this year and his struggles against OTs the previous seasons I don't think he's built to battle OTs week in and week out. Looking forward to what Bradford can bring though it's worrisome that he didn't even get time on STs during the regular season. Then again, between Slowcum and the general stubbornness of the coaching staff at times makes it a hard read.

Unless they make a big move in FA to bring in an ILB, I can't see canning both Hawk and Jones. Barrington has looked good but he is still a work in progress and there is no telling what he will become. And there is no other ILB on the team better than Hawk at this time. Even if Matthews would move to ILB full time, there has to be somebody to back up the position that can be counted on.

I would expect Jones to be gone, Hawk to remain. Possibly through a cut and sign deal like they did a few years ago with him. Having a player who knows the defense probably better than any other defensive player, and who has a history of always being available to play. Hawk could be a player coach for the young ILBers.

I would like to see a high pick and a proven not over the hill FA brought in. We can easily afford it.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

My best bet would be they keep either Jones or Hawk and use one of them as a situational player. Likely whichever one will take the highest pay cut. Then they platoon Barrington with Hawk/Jones and an early round pick (2nd or 3rd rounder perhaps?).

Barrington showed too much promise. I would be shocked if he was canned but crazier things have happened
Circular Arguments: They are a heck of an annoyance

I'm usually one for keeping players and letting them compete, but I feel like I've seen enough for Hawk and Jones. Hawk physically just hasn't been there enough, while Jones usually has the physical potential he hasn't shown the football instincts or toughness to make the most of the potential. Looked like Jones beefed up to get better against the run, but it didn't help his toughness so he just looked slower in quickness (which was a strength of his).

Of course if the Packers were to cut both they would sign a vet to replace at least one of them (which is why I kind of doubt they'll both be cut)... but if that were to happen, my guess is they'd look towards Texans LB Brooks Reed, who has spent time at both OLB and ILB, isn't a stud at either but might be a versatile upgrade.

I wonder if the Packers might go after Cowboys LB Rolando McClain. Cowboys have a number of FAs they need to resign and not a lot of cap, so one or two of their many FA LBers are probably going else where. McClain has a TON of on the field physical talent, but has gotten into a good bit of trouble off the field. Not the normal type of guy the Packers bring in, and especially might not wanting calling the plays at ILB. But hey talent is talent at times if off the field isn't TOO bad (which I haven't looked into too much).
