Brett Favre had a responsibility when Aaron Rodgers was his backup on the Green Bay Packers, and it wasn’t to get Rodgers ready to take his job.
The Favre-Rodgers relationship is a story that won’t die, but that happens when one Hall of Famer is backing up another. It happened with Joe Montana and Steve Young too.

Favre famously said it wasn’t his job to get Rodgers ready to play, and years into retirement that stance hasn’t changed, as he said in an interview with InDepth’s Graham Bensinger. But he thinks the entire situation, and his relationship with Rodgers, has been overblown. His acrimonious departure from Green Bay probably didn’t help with the perception.

“Aaron and I, we don’t talk all the time but I don’t talk all the time with family members,” Favre told Bensinger in a wide-ranging interview. “It has nothing to do with him being the starting quarterback of Green Bay in spite of what people may think.

“I got no hard feelings. Why would I have hard feelings for Aaron Rodgers and why would he have hard feelings for me?”

His attitude on his role as a mentor for Rodgers when he was in Green Bay is pretty simple, and it makes sense. He already had one pretty tough job for the Packers.

“I think as a starter my job is hard enough to win ball games and be a leader,” Favre said. “You’re not a babysitter. And I’m not, by no means talking about Aaron, but he’s the starter now. So the next quarterback comes in, whether he is a first-round pick or third-round pick or free agent, but they like him. Nowhere does it say that you have to take that guy under your wing and teach him the ropes. You don’t have to do anything but win ball games for whoever it is you are the starting quarterback for. Ultimately, that’s what keeps you around or doesn’t.”

Just can't stay out of the papers, can he?

Then again if Mike and Aaron want to shut his pie hole, maybe they'll get their shit together and stop pissing it all away like a couple of fucking losers.

Seriously, I like Favre more now than I ever did when he was playing for the Packers because I love seeing how uptight some fans get whenever his name is mentioned.

It has only been two weeks from the most epic loss in franchise history, potentially the worst loss in NFL history. My emotions have calmed down a bit but I will never get over that loss and am surprised at how accepting many of the fans on this forum are given what happened. That is great for everyone that has moved on but I would expect the norm to be that this last loss will be like a scarlet G for the fans.

In his prime Favre was one of the most effective quarterbacks in league history.

As to his relationship with Rodgers, well Favre wasn't exactly a stellar performer during Rodgers first two years, that's for sure.

The Packers went 4-12 in 2005, Rodgers rookie year.
Favre led the league with 29 INTs against 20 TDs and a a QBR of 70.9
In 2006 Favre threw 18 TDs against 18 INTs and completed 56 percent of his throws for a QBR of 73.
With 2007 as an exception, Rodgers really never saw Favre near the apex of his earlier-career high level of performance.

Favre's departure from Green Bay was very contentious and Rodgers had to replace a legend.
And Aaron more than stepped up. Favre not "helping" Rodgers was probably a good thing.

Rodgers is playing better than any Packers QB has ever played, including Favre during his three MVP campaigns.

Rodgers has been very classy towards Favre.
Less so, Favre toward Rodgers.

Favre was a great quarterback, not so much as a person it seems.
Rodgers is a great quarterback and a good person.
Therein is the difference.

It sucked but it happened and there is nothing anyone can do about it so its time to start looking forward. Dwell on it if you have to but I won't.

Oh and I happen to think the loss to the Broncos in the SB was much worse because it was for all the marbles. This game was just to get a chance to play for the marbles.

Every time I read this reprising of the old bad feelings crap - and accompanying comments bad-mouthing one or the other of probably the two greatest QBs in NFL history, I can't help thinking - and saying, we are TWICE BLESSED as Packer fans to have enjoyed them both.

wow I love all the green and gold kool aid drinkers are claiming Rodgers as one of the greatest of all time. He has a long ways to go for that. People bring up stats but seriously Kevin could throw for 3000 yards with the way the rules are setup. Remember back in the days when passing for 3000 yards was a big deal, hell every year we have someone going for 5000 yards with these flag football rules.

Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)
