Green Bay — This is the worst time of year for a team to become lethargic. Year after year, right now is when contending teams either capture momentum and ride it into February (think: 2010 Green Bay Packers) or plateau before a sudden, shocking loss (think: 2011 Packers).
So after a humbling loss in Buffalo, coach Mike McCarthy found one way to zap urgency into this Super Bowl contender.
With two regular-season games still to go, he had players elect playoff captains.
"He trusts his gut instincts and they haven't let him down or let the team down," quarterback Aaron Rodgers said. "I don't think it's anything other than a mind-set for him. He likes to ooze confidence out of himself. It's a toughness from his Pittsburgh roots, but it's a confidence that he trusts the guys that he's going to get it done.
"This just ups the urgency."
