Whenever I hear about Lacy being disinterested in play pro football, I can't help but think of former NFL players who, after 6-8 years in the league, their bodies burned out and unemployed struggled to find something in life post-football. As far as I'm concerned, the guy as a far broader view on life than most football players. He realizes that football isn't the end and be all to life and wants something a little bit more. Good for him but potentially bad for the Packers.

Getting a handful of good seasons from a bruising running back is about all I would really be hoping for as a general manager. I would always be on the look out for good running backs that fell in the draft, kind of like Carlos Hyde did for the 49'ers or Lacy last year for the Packers. Take a good one when he is good value, because the ones you have probably won't last for too long. There are always exceptions, but they do not define the norm.

The running back position may be devalued in today's NFL, but a good one can completely change an offense. The Packers are a good example of that recently.
