http://www.cnn.com/2014/06/24/us/kfc-incident-questions/index.html?hpt=hp_t2 Basically, a child who had suffered bites from I believe Pitbulls and had severe scars was asked to leave KFC. The grandmother who was with her went public and of course the internet did the rest. Turns out, this is did not happy. Unfortunately the scars on the little girl are not faked. On a positive note, KFC initially ponied up $30,000 to assist in medical bills for the child and even though this was a hoax, KFC is going to honor said donation.
Aside from the small percentage (just my gut feeling) of donations actually going to those you intend to help, this story is why I don't just flip out my wallet after reading them. It's not that I don't want to help, it's that I'd gladly give someone $30 directly than risk donating $5 to a scam.
I feel bad for the little girl. I don't think she was conspiring this story, but I hope she doesn't get any flak for it.
