GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Remember last week when Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Mike Daniels said it was time for the defense to get mean?

Count quarterback Aaron Rodgers among those who think they have the personnel to do so.

In our continuing series based on Rodgers' lengthy interview with ESPN.com last week, I asked what he liked about this year's team that perhaps he has not seen from other recent Packers' squads.

His answer seemed to fit perfectly with what Daniels was talking about.

If you put this year's starting 22 and/or the whole roster on the scales, I doubt there would be much difference from last season, but toughness/athleticism/skill on D, etc., yeah, the players mentioned in the article and others should give us that, and the frosting on the cake would be if Sherrod plays and plays like a #1 pick.

I find it odd that I hear about getting lighter and faster, then followed with bigger and stronger. When it comes down to it, strong and fast are both good assets. The most important thing to make either approach successful is putting the right schemes in place to take advantage. I hope our coaching staff can find ways to make this happen.

In reading the article, I had a similar reaction like hardrocker950's... I think Rodgers was speaking to height. He mentioned Hubbard, Peppers and Jones...all skyscrapers...and Richard Rodgers as well. He also referenced the tall CB's of Seattle.

It was interesting he referenced he felt our D was like a JV defense for many years. That has to be about height...when you watch a varsity vs. a JV team you see the size of guys and height is the most notable thing. So, that's been the problem? Not enough tall guys on D. Hmmm.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

Size and speed are not mutually exclusive...

This type of thinking is dated.

FAT linemen, not to say the DL shouldn't be a little chubby, but the bulk of the players weight should be in strength, not the beergut.

This is what I believe is the fundamental fuckup our staff has made the last few years. 330lbs that play much lighter because they lack the correct workout goals.

There have no doubt been issues with regard to endurance and our defensive line was also hobbled with injuries last year. In any case, the planned rotation this year, which includes some new faces, should see those occurrences become far less frequent.
