Hard to build a roster if you have to select positionless players like "Round 1, #21" 🤔

This reminds me of something I'm hoping to try to do before draft day.

I'm going to go to first-pick as if I were an expansion team substituting for Houston's draft position at the top of every round. Then, by trading down as much as I need/can, see what kind of 60-man roster (53 plus 7 practice squad) I can come up with in a single draft.

My guess is that this is going to take about an hour all-told. Anyone else interested in trying this experiment or seeing what I come up with if I find an hour between now and then?
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I ended up with 62 players, Offense....4-qb's, 4rb's, 1fb, 6wr's, 4 te's, 4 ot's, 4-og's
..............................................Defense...4 de's, 4dt's, 5olb's, 5 ilb's, 6cb's, 3 ss's, 3fs's, 1 k, 1 p

Didn't worry to much about the grades, as soon as you start repeating positions, they drop dramatically.

I cut Jarret Bush and everything seemed perfect.

This was actually a nice experience, so I've done it 14 times, I cut Jarret Bush 14 times and it was right every time.

Salary Cap:
$ 133,000,000
Current Team Salary:
$ 124,534,941
Dead Money:
$ 2,677,484
Available to Spend:
$ 8,465,059

That was fun. Got the roster down to 53 with 7 draft picks in there. I didn't cut Bush or Hawk. I felt bad not bringing Jolly back 😞

My strategy was simple. I'm a line guy, so first priority -- get top six OL. Second, get the DL starters. Skill positions last.

Planned to go 4-3 on defense, but 3-4 players fell and 4-3 players didn't, plus OL went a lot faster than expected, so changed targets mid-second.
Wide receivers: mostly wanted good route runners, plus speed in late rounds.
Running backs: wanted good receivers first (primary targets were Sims and Neal, got both), then speed option.
Quarterback: wanted space fillers until year three, plus possible developmental.
Knew risk was going to be back 7 on defense, and proved to be so. Wanted both E J Gaines and Ahmad Davis, got neither. But am happy with the two lines. Also picked up an extra 1st rounder in 2015.

The Picks:
Round 1 Pick 15 (PITT): Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan (A)
