Still not loving safety early on. Like more corners in the first round. Also like more linemen than linebackers. Rounds 2 through 4 will be awesome for value. Excited for the draft.

We need that premiere S talent, and I think this one player has it. Not afraid to go up and get him even if it may seem a reach - as our next shot is not until the 53.

Is that falling victim somewhat to need vs. BPA? I guess, but I think we need a top Safety that badly. And, that won't happen anyway so it is a moot point.

Maybe Ted trades down from the 21, and we get the player anyway, along with a DL or LB or both. I think we are going to be fine, and Ted will work some trade magic. I really don't see any need to trade up, and he is pretty damn good at trading down.

That bit about safety has a lot of people buzzing around the Packers organization especially with the media asking ted if he could have a good defense without a great safety (more or less). Ted pretty much answered by not answering as he always does, and I believe he thinks that you can. The issue with fans is due to the fact that safety has been so poor particularly last year. We rolled the dice on two guys and lost on both of them. Burnett is still competent but we need another guy, and he doesn't necessarily have to be a pro-bowler, but we can't have any more of these liabilities out there at that position anymore. Unfortunately it just doesn't look like a deep draft for safeties this time around. You got two guys and then seemingly everybody else.

Better pass rush will help all the way around.

wow great summary porky.

from your menu I choose:
C.J. Mosley, ILB, Alabama
Jimmie Ward, S, Northern Illinois
Jarvis Landry, WR, LSU
Troy Niklas, TE, Notre Dame

I tried to address all the areas of need I could. I wouldn't mind more help on the DL but that wasn't here on your short list board.

It was a real toss up between HaHa and CJ. You have more options at S than you do for ILB. It would be great to grab someone (Skov) who is nearly as good as Mosley in round 3 but I am simply worn out when it comes to selecting players who are predisposed to injury.

Taking Ward as the long term solution at S worries me to no end. While I am an NIU alum I still don't respect the MAC like I should. And NIU's offense was stellar against other small schools, the defense was pretty mediocre. Ward may be all of that and a bag of chips but I am still a tad skeptical. That said he seems to be the best option left and GB needs someone at S even if they move Hyde over.

I waited until the 3rd as you have plenty of WR in this round. Initially I was going to take Robinson with the 3B selection but I don't need a second ILB or S so I a lot of choices at 3A. Adams may be a better long term solution than Landry but that old mid major concern is biting me in the butt again. Obviously it is better to have to rely on a mid major as the 3rd or 4th WR than the #2 S but I deferred to your ranking.

I got to Niklas by default. I would certainly rather have ASJ but despite my concerns I think Ward will be better than Dixon or Reynolds.

In retrospect I could easily be talked into a switch and taking AS-J in round 2 and Reynolds in 3. What fun.

I see only three inside linebackers, and I’m not even convinced of that. Skov suffered an awful knee injury in 2011. His athleticism took a noticeable hit. Near the end of last season, you started to see him flash the kind of athleticism he had prior to his knee injury. I’m not a doctor, though, so I don’t know the long-term impact. I imagine some teams may take him off their board entirely. He could drop out of the top 100. I just like his tape.

A couple of edge guys (Shazier and Van Noy) intrigue me as inside linebacker options. Shazier’s athleticism is off the charts and BYU moved Van Noy all over the place.

From a need standpoint, your list is very, very good. Mosley fills a hole at inside linebacker, Ward starts on day one, and Landry pushes Jarrett Boykin. Niklas would also contribute as a blocker, while Andrew Quarless gets most of the receiving looks.

Jamari Lattimore is someone many of us (me included) are discounting. They team may view him as a good alternative to Brad Jones. They may not take a linebacker, as a result. That opens the door for them to select a safety and tight end with their first two picks. Personally, I believe there is a major drop off between Niklas and Jace Amaro, who I have as my No. 3 tight end.

What if someone drops as Aaron Rodgers did in 2005? I have Dennard as my No. 7 overall player in this draft. His tape is amazing. I don’t think you can pass on him, especially with Davone House and Tramon Williams possibly being in their final season with the Packers. There’s a thread talking about Anthony Barr. I have him No. 9 overall. You take him and don’t blink if he’s there. This is why Ted Thompson will stick to his board instead of worrying about specific needs or pairings.
