That's why I say draft at least two of them - 1st and 3rd round and another lower. Clinton-Dix in particular, seems to be a ballhawk like Collins. Giving ourselves a couple of chances to hit on a pick seems like the best way.

Ted won't take 2 safeties from his first 3 picks, never ever. And I'm sure as you are that it is exactly whar we need.

1 starter out of two would just fix our defense and 2 of 2 would practically put us in a SB. It's a passing league and we can pass better than most teams, if we can also stop the pass it's just about getting a few lucky coin tosses to win it all.

Morgan Burnett has slipped these past couple of years, and we may need to bolster that SS position, as well as the FS opposite him. It would be smart to add the depth now by drafting 2 Safeties, just in case of injury.

I do like Richardson and Banjo though and won't count them out. Maybe the need is not as great as I might be thinking. A really tough call.

This seems to be a Safety rich draft to me. There is a lot of talent at the position, and I think we can get solid players well into day two, maybe even day three.

As for ILB, I do believe we could use 2 of them as well. I do like Barrington, and am looking forward to seeing if he can make a contribution there in 2014. Hawk had a really good 2013. He's just getting up there in age at 30 years old, but if he can keep improving his speed, we may be OK there too.

The real eyesores were opposite Burnett and Hawk in the middle of our D. Gaping holes. Those should be improved upon after this draft is over. It will be interesting to see how Ted does it.

I won't go as far as to say 1st and 3rd but it would not surprise me to see two and possibly fairly early. For one thing we need depth there. I, for one, haven't given up on Burnett. I don't believe a player just forgets how to play football but in the event he were to get hurt the team would be in a very difficult spot talent wise.
I hope they move him back to his real playing position and expect to see him bounce back. Then I hope to hell he doesn't get hurt.

The talent and depth of the Safety position is extremely iffy. At least at ILB Lattimore and Barrington show some promise. I would say more so then Palmer and Mulamba at OLB being a pretty difficult position to learn. Richardson may show more this year and Hyde is possible but man it seems like adding more talent to the pool is a must.

IMO, there are only two free safeties worthy of a pick before #21 in the third round in this class.

There's Clinton-Dix. He'll be long gone before the Packers are on the clock. To get him, Ted Thompson would have to trade into the top 15, and there's a good bet he'll be gone in the top 10. If he fell to 21 I'd be ecstatic and I'd send the card up in seconds.

But that's just dreaming, IMO. There are dumber GMs in front of Ted Thompson in the draft order, but there aren't 20 who are going to let Clinton-Dix pass. Ain't happening.

Number two is Pryor. IMO he's early second quality, but I understand why most think of him as worthy of #21. He might be there, so that's a possible choice.

After Pryor....I might take the guy from Stanford (if there weren't some injury concerns) in the third.). Personally, even that's a major reach.

And the rest of the draft class? late 5th at best, IMO. Either they have speed issues, or they take bad angles regularly, or, worst of all, are bad tacklers. And most of them have two of the three problems. The three problems that have plagued this team at the safety positions for years.

Strong safety? You've got Bucannon, who everyone seems in love with, which I don't get....before the third is a reach. And you've got Ward, who isn't worth a first but will be long gone before the 21st in the second. And you've got Dixon, who is probably early fourth level, but I would be willing to stretch at 21 in the 3rd. And Loston maybe. I like Berhe, but he's a late 5th, just like all the rest; unlike the rest, he doesn't approach tackling like he's channeling Darren Sharper or the "tackle by throwing a shoulder at someone as hard as you can" school.

IMO if you want to get three third-round-or-better safeties in this draft you are going to have to spend the rest of your draft choices trading up (and probably next year's first as well, if you want Clinton-Dix).

I wish it were otherwise. I wish I had someone in garters and heels sitting in my lap right now.

But it's no more likely to happen.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
