We'll be without #12 for 3 or more weeks.

I'm thinking I prefer to see Tolzien on the field rather than Seneca Wallace.

If, for some reason, Tolzien manages to get one or two wins then we might get some draft picks from this disaster. There are a lot of teams without a QB and there has been interest in Tolzien before.

Wallace is too short, too weak, too slow. Tolzien will probably throw a couple of picks per game but I say let's try, at least the Eagles will be unprepared for him.

What do you guys know about Tolzien?

He's 6' 3" so he's tall.

He's highly regarded as a backup, but I don't think his ceiling is necessarily that high.

Ted hates Wisconsin players.. so there is no chance that Scott lines up for the Packers. [grin1]

CBS Draft Analysis

Strengths: Experienced signal-caller who works under center and from the shotgun. Stands strong in the pocket to deliver passes despite knowing he will take a hit. Looks off safety to open up routes behind him. Owns mobility to be effective on bootlegs. Quick release, drops arm slot to sling out balls to the flat when necessary. High completion percentage between the hashes. Steps up into the pocket when pressure comes off the edge.

Weaknesses: Doesn't stretch field vertically or horizontally because of slightly below average arm strength. Not asked to throw to the wide side of the field often. Short follow-through on some passes with rush around him, loses accuracy. Benefitted from play-action in run-heavy offense. Does not drive the ball downfield. Loses spiral when trying to fit a ball in a tight space. Average height and three-quarter delivery results in tipped passes.

I really don't know much about him, but given the circumstances it wouldn't hurt to give the guy some snaps and see what he has to offer. It's not like Wallace did much (but he wasn't exactly "ready" to be thrown into the fire.)

My understanding from a 9ers fan is he was let go in favor of Skelton - not ambitious enough to look into it though.

Still very raw, I'm betting they give Seneca a chance this week, if he doesn't show any improvement then Tolzien may get a shot.

Either way, it's gonna take a team effort to pick up some wins while Aaron is out.

It seems we'll go with Wallace next week. Really bad timing to play against the Eagles, short week, #12 gets injured and Foles seems to be in the zone.

We just don't have enough time to prepare some surprise packages or do we?

If McCarthy thinks we can play dink & dunk then we'll need a defensive miracle.

It's on NFL.com that he has been activated and Finley put in season ending IR.

Absolutely, Tolzien needs to start ahead of that lemon, Wallace. Preferably, Wallace gets cut and we pick up somebody else, but I don't really expect that to happen.

You can't just cut your QB that is expected to start and pick up a guy off the street, and expect your team to do better. That QB would have little to no chance of succeeding.

That would put Tolzien in a better spot if they were to go with him the following week.

Tolzien has been on the practice squad and taking some reps with the team. And more importantly, he has at least a little bit of skill and ability. Wallace basically has no ability/no ceiling at all - he's pure crap. Thompson never should have signed him.

I don't know if the Packers can win with Tolzien, but I see a glimmer of hope - with Wallace, there would be none/nada/zilch.

Wallace appeared to have very little arm strength. He was supposed to be fast, but sure didn't look it. And he's short. is that enough for you?

What about Coleman makes you think he'd give us a chance to win any game? The guy couldn't make it through a quarter in preseason without getting completely rattled and has never even been close to playing in a real game.

I don't remember the preseason all that well, but I don't remember Vince Young knocking anybody's socks off. Is it possible you favor him because of his ties to Texas? The same as some posters who (unconsciously or consciously) favor former Badgers?

Seneca has made a career out of being in exactly this spot. He'll have weapons around him, and he'll get us through some games.
