TE's on Packer roster 2006 Bubba Franks and Donald Lee 2 proven vets, David Martin was an early version of Jermicheal Finley, the size of a TE with the speed of a WR, his only problem, he couldn't stay healthy, no room for Vernon Davis.

Presently, just cut a guy like Boykin or Bush, in my example. Vernon Davis would have been better than Bubba Franks and Donald Lee by FAR, especially in the long run, as he's still a beast today. Just because there are serviceable players already on a team doesn't mean a better player wouldn't displace them. Worse case scenario, keep all three or four of the promising players and cut a bottom of the roster guy, kind of how the Packers have kept multiple full backs and tight ends in the past. The impact might not be immediate, but those "proven vets" find their way out of league pretty quickly and the cream rises to the top, if you will.

This argument isn't necessarily completely about AJ Hawk vs. Vernon Davis, but more so against the logic that there is "no room" for a great player simply because there are decent established players already on the team. Pretty much the only positions where that MIGHT be the case would be quarterback and the kickers, and I'd argue it's a good thing even at QB.

Absolutely mind-boggling that some would, with the benefit of hindsight, not take Haloti Ngata over Hawk. Ngata has been an all-pro for 5 years running. Hawk has never been named all-pro. Some are being just too precious with Hawk.

I'm happy we have Hawk. He's been a steady, unselfish player for us. He's taken pay cuts and moved around as the team needed. Every team needs players like Hawk.

With the benefit of hindsight are there certain players I would have taken instead? Absolutely. But there's also a lot of absolute dross on that list. We could have done significantly worse.

WHY WE EVER PASED ON BARRY SANDERS IS BEYOND ME!!!!

Worst move ever, the 2nd worst would be in 2006, drafting for need , and getting an 8 year starter.
NOW THAT'S JUST PLAIN STUPID!!!!

I will give Hawk some credit though. He is playing better this year. I certainly hope he keeps it up. I still think better value could have been gotten for the pick, but as I have already said, things could have been much worse.

I like aggressive/decisive AJ Hawk. Wish he would be that guy more than once every 5 games.
