Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy isn't one to live in the present or the past. He's always looking ahead at how he can do better and how the players who toil under him can continually improve. That message came through today in his day-after press conference this afternoon.
He talked about the defensive backfield, the injury to first round draft pick Datone Jones, the offensive linemen and the quarterbacks, among other topics, while having one eye on getting back to practice this week.

Interesting, to note the human component to this great team we follow.

Nobody is perfect. Yet, when it comes to OUR team, I believe perfection is more often expected than not. Maybe "expected" is the wrong term. "Hoped for" may be better.

I commented recently on our last preseason game performance in very general, negative terms, sweepingly so. It was just a reaction filled with some emotion, but geared more towards the overall impression the Packers had made. I felt a certain comfort level in doing so here as I consider all of you to be friends, and equally passionate about our team.

While it rubbed some the wrong way, I totally get why. Preseason football is indeed a time for evaluation of talent, and that time is certainly precious. Large decisions are being made regarding performance and roster positions. So many factors come into play with one person's performance, many times involving a multitude of players.

Mike has his work cut out for him. It will be interesting to see how Barclay can grow at RT with more reps exclusively at the position. There are a lot of players like him, with huge potential, some with a little experience, some with none, and they could find themselves starting should another player go down. It should be both fun and painful to see how our final roster evolves. All I know, is we have a very tall order to fill in jumping teams like SF, ATL, NYG, SEA and many others to reach our ultimate goal. This young Packers team has to get healthy, and has to gel as a team if we are to get there. Mike McCarthy deals with this same dilemma every year. Youth, injuries, and inexperience.

Hopefully, they get it all ironed out here over these next 3 week of the preseason.

Will be interesting to see whom is standing as far as players and injuries after 3 weeks. Be a fun ride thou - since many of our positions have some good potential. Especially our running game as compared to last year.

I think we can all understand the challenge of being a head coach for this team which consistently one of the youngest or the youngest team in the entire NFL.

nice post p2w. along that line I will mention that one of the fans stood up when others were booing Harrell and shouted, "There is only one Packers team. Don't boo the Packers." Most of the people shut up.

McCarthy is positive most of the time. If he means it honestly then I guess I'm okay with it. But there are times where I wish we would get a little more strait talk from him. Has anyone noticed that he holds his QBs to a much higher standard than anyone else on the team? Look at his comments about Harrell and the other QBs. He holds them to a standard that he does not hold...say Mason Crosby to. Or House...Or a lot of guys.
