At first glance, the loss of Bryan Bulaga to a season-ending knee injury and the installation of David Bakhtiari into his starting spot at left tackle could easily be the defining moment for the Green Bay Packers' 2013 season.

This is the first mention of Barclay in a while. If it's true there are only gonna be 9 O Linemen ready to play against the Cardinals, he should get to show off that versatility.

Cuz he'll have to! That and... let's be honest, he is pretty damn good actually! Came out of nowhere last year and really helped us out.

And yet his mediocrity still leaves us with little depth behind the 3rd and 4th stringers who are starting.

I understand that you want players to be versatile, but I've been surprised how much action Barclay has gotten at Center, considering he's rumored to be competing for a starting spot at RT. I would of guessed they would of let him focus at RT if they thought it was a really close battle.
Mike McCarthy has said Lang can play Center, and Lang isn't in a battle for his job (that I know of) yet he hasn't been reported to take that many snaps (if any) from Center.

I've read tweets and saw during the family night game, that Van Roten has looked very good at Center and looks like he's gained some "good" weight as well (and again Mike McCarthy claimed Lang can play center, though I don't remember reading anyone claiming to have seen Lang snap the ball from center, but lets say Mike McCarthy is telling the truth because he knows the team a lot better than I). So it looks like there is a solid to good back-up behind Dietrich-Smith.

So if they are guys they are good to solid back-ups at Center already, I've been hoping they're let Barclay focus on battling at RT.

Though maybe the Packers are hoping Barclay is the future starting center if Dietrich-Smith leave via FA. Then again Newhouse could leave as well. I just fine it strange they haven't focused him at RT if they thought he could beat out Newhouse. Then again maybe they don't think he can beat out Newhouse. Or thought he could be the back-up to the 3 inside positions, the top OL draft pick could be the back-up to LT, and both of them could back-up RT.

I'm expecting the new first five - now that Bulaga is gone - will start. Barclay and Van Roten make 6 and 7. I think Patrick Lewis is still there and healthy for 8. Anybody know who the 9th is? The first 7 or 8 have a legitimate shot at making the team, which should make for better quality on the field the last 3/4 of the game than most other teams in the first preseason game. It also should even out the competition for RB, as they all will get to run behind a line that has at least a fair amount of quality.

ESPN

Don Barclay played 30 snaps in a rotation with Marshall Newhouse at right tackle and was impressive. Barclay started at that spot for the final six games (including playoffs) last season but entered training camp behind Newhouse, who was moved from left tackle. Barclay, who also has played guard and center this summer, spent all of his time at right tackle against the Cardinals and outperformed Newhouse (who allowed the John Abraham sack that led to Graham Harrell’s fumble). Don’t be surprised to see Barclay line up with the starters when the Packers return to practice on Monday. “We graded out poorly as an offense, [but] I thought Don Barclay’s performance was clearly one of the better spots in last night’s game,” McCarthy said.

I'd actually be pretty interested in seeing a starting line with Bakh and Barclay at the tackles. Newhouse is still good for a back up as well.

beast (6h) : Either the Cowboys have no idea what they're doing, or they're targeting their former OC, currently the Eagles OC
Zero2Cool (22h) : Fake news. Cowboys say no
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (23-Jan) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you
wpr (22-Jan) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (22-Jan) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
