Only reason I'd think of wanting Crosby for two-three more seasons is this

After watching the most extended head-to-head kicking period of training camp during Saturday night’s scrimmage, it would have been reasonable to walk out of Lambeau Field thinking the Green Bay Packers might have to look elsewhere for their kicker.

Veteran kicker Mason Crosby showed that his troubles from 2012 are far from behind him. He made just 3-of-8 field goals on Saturday and drew a smattering of boos from the 63,047 fans. While his competitor, Giorgio Tavecchio, made 6-of-7 field goals during the scrimmage, his lack of leg strength was apparent when he narrowly made kicks from 51 and 53, the latter of which hit the crossbar before going through.

At this point, however, there aren’t a lot of other options.

Of the kickers listed on the NFL’s inactive player list, only three have any significant NFL experience: Nate Kaeding, David Buehler and Justin Medlock. Kaeding said this spring that he was retiring because of recurring injuries, Buehler was always considered more of a kickoff specialist and Medlock’s agent, Frank Murtha, said Sunday afternoon that he had not heard anything from the Packers.

Crosby is making good contact, his angle is just off. The difference is so small that I can't tell if he's adjusting his starting position from the right hashmark or using the same positioning as he does from the left hashmark.

Just based on physics, if he started out a little further to his right once he was in position the ball should go further left when he kicked it, using the same motion. Just keep adjusting to the starting point to his right until the ball goes through the uprights. Probably wouldn't take more than 6" to 1'.

I really think this field goal kicking thing is just as much on McCarthy as the buck shy Crosby. How many times has McCarthy trotted him out there for a 50+ yard field goal just to give up that field position. Maybe it is time to start going for it more on fourth down once you cross the opponents 40 yard line than to put pressure on your place kicker to make those long kicks. Get your head out of your ass McCarthy.

Also, I would rather have the guy with the stronger leg 10 out of 10 times. We had enough of Ryan Longwell's kickoffs to the 18 yard line to last a lifetime.

Maybe with Tim Masthay taking over kickoffs, they can just bring Ryan Longwell back?

dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
Zero2Cool (25-Jun) : Maybe wicked wind chill made it worse?
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : And then he signs with Cleveland in the offseason
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : @SharpFootball WR Diontae Johnson just admitted he refused to enter a game in 41° weather last year in Baltimore because he felt “ice cold”
