Game of Thrones is a very, very dark show. I know all fantasy inevitably compares to Lord of the Rings, but LOTR has a lighter side, despite the apocalyptic ramifications.
GOT is based on George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series. I haven't read the books, though I own the first two. I understand they're very graphic and the show's producers are faithful to the original work. Martin also writes one episode per year.
I'm enjoying season three. There are a lot of moving parts, but the Khaleesi's storyline has been enjoyable. Her character has come along ways since the first episode. The only thing I haven't enjoyed is Theon's storyline, which hasn't gone anywhere since the first episode. The nudity or language doesn't bother me. It's like putting on a Bear game and watching Jay Cutler throw a pick. You dive in expecting it.
For what it’s worth, episode nine is the big episode each year. Last year was the big battle, and the year before that was Baelor. All I know is there’s a game changer similar to season one that’s going to happen next week.
