I agree with everything you say.

Now go back and watch the 49ers games from last year, and see how they ran right over us. Adrian Peterson too, although he generally didn't take it straight up the gut.

Reviewing the games where our run-D was atrocious, in my opinion, our players simply lacked discipline. Either they could not fill the gaps because they got pushed back by the other team's players, or they simply over-pursued and create a big running lane. Add to that the missed tackles, and you have some horrible run D.

I'm not sure how a true 3-4 DE fixes that. Our problems with gap integrity are so bad that even JJ Watt type DE would not be of much use. Granted, it is massively worrying that our gap discipline is SO bad - hell, our best player on D, Claymaker, is probably the worst culprit in terms of gap integrity. But that, if anything, suggests getting stouter/stronger OLBs whose strong suit may not be rushing the passer. Wilson / Raji / Pickett do a fine enough job of taking on o-linemen. Certainly they did a fine enough job against Peterson in the playoffs.

One thing I will say, we absolutely need a NT out of this draft. Raji has played way too many snaps the past few years, and it is obvious that the Packers do not think Pickett should be playing extended time at NT. I'm looking forward to this and possibly OT being the two areas to be addressed today. But I still am not sure a true 3-4 DE is a primary need given that (as said by a few posters here) we play 60-70% of the game in our sub-packages. It is, after all, a passing league.

The worst, by far, that game was Erik Walden, though. Gladly we won't have to suffer through that again. Next to that, our d-linemen couldn't push the pocket in combination with some bad outside containment. That gave Colin just about every option to run, step up and do just about anything he wanted.

As to Datone... The more I see of this kid, the more I like him. He has a great burst to him and some amazing speed for a guy his size. A bit better even than the 4.8 he posted at 283 at the Combine. Can get to the passer, but plays the run, as well.

The only thing that does worry me is that, if he's to go up to a guy like Iutapi, I think he'll get pushed around quite badly. I just don't see him holding his ground against one of the bigger O-linemen in the league.

I had this guy going to us from the start. Datone Jones will start day one. Put him next to Neal and Raji and you got a solid line. I'm thinking Wilson and Pickett will be fighting for jobs. I don't think Jolly will make the team.

Players I'm looking for in the 2nd round:

Arthur Brown LB Kansas State 6'1'' 241 Pounds- Since the releasing of D.J Smith and A.J Hawk maybe in his last year(s) on this team, this man will add speed to our team and can help us out in coverage. He was also the Big 12 Defensive player of the year.

D.J. Swearinger S South Carolina 5'11'' 208 Pounds- With Eric Reid and Matt Elam long gone, this guy is the best Saftey imo. This guy has the nose for the ball and he's tough as fuck. Take him now and don't look back if no one else excites you. We have no safteys, no offense to Mcmillian and Jennings but they're not gonna cut it. Since Woody left we've a glaring need and imo is our biggest need in the draft.

Zach Ertz TE Stanford 6'5'' 249 pounds- Give Arod as many weapons as you can.. If he's the best on the board take him. Finley will benefit from this not only in 2 TE formations but a push from another TE trying to get play time.

Burns Pugh at 15:32...Pugh is a pretty good offensive lineman. Seems like Datone gets a lot of guys to initially try to lunge forward due to his speed.
Gets killed by Fischer at 19:45, but kept pushing through the block.

Datone Jones looks like he has worked a lot on his hand movements compared to videos I have seen of him playing at UCLA.

I check the site pretty much everyday and I don't recall that at all. I am assuming by "they" you are talking about people on the site here, because why else would you bring it up here?

The Packers draft for their scheme, which happens to be 3 - 4. This Datone Jones guy fills the DEFENSIVE END position in the 3 - 4. I doubt you'll see him in the DEFENSIVE TACKLE (as you said) position as much.

I hope you can bump some threads where people are bitching about getting 4 - 3 players instead of 3 - 4. Nick Perry was a 4 - 3 DE and they drafted him with the intent on making him a 3 - 4 OLB. That is drafting for 3 - 4. They had a plan.

I think he's a good player, I was just taken aback at the selection, particularly when there were so many other cream players on the board. It's all good though. Guess they got the guy they wanted.
