Good deal! It sends a message to anyone drafted next weekend by Green Bay, too. If you play well, they will reward you.

Finally!!!!

Curious to see the details, It is all about the signing bonus and guaranteed money when it comes to how it effects The Packers "cap".

With this being an extension it gives The Packers many different options on how to spread out the guaranteed money.

Looks like Aaron is next, hopefully soon, not to sure if there is going to be enough money left for Raji, this could be his last year in Green Bay.

Did I expect anything else? For sure no. However, with #12's extension upcoming I would have loved to see the Claymaker inked at around 10 to 11 millions. But very glad to see him in green and gold for the foreseeable future.

Well this helps a little.

$31 mil guaranteed, that money can be spread out over 6 years(1yr current + 5yr ext.) when counting against the cap, now the only thing to be revealed is how much Clays base salary is for each year of the contract, put those numbers together and you have how much he is going to count against the cap each year.

Linebacker Clay Matthews signed an extension with the Green Bay Packers on Wednesday, the team announced.

Terms of the extension weren't disclosed by the team, but a source confirmed to ESPN that the extension is for five years and worth about $65 million in new money, including $31 million guaranteed. Fox Sports had earlier reported terms of the deal.

A source close to the deal told ESPN.com's Darren Rovell that Matthews will receive $22 million by the end of 2013 and $27 million in the next 12 months.

5-year extension?

So it would actually be 6-years including this one?

At 66 mil, that's actually 11 per year?

I know I am mostly confused how they do things, that is why it is probably better to just wait for the full details to be posted on Packers.com

I am betting Clays base salary for next year will be around 1 mil(2014), 2mil(2015), 3 mil(2016), then will explode the final 2 years, that is when he and The Packers restructure or say goodbye.

This will enable The Packers to keep the cap somewhat inline for the next 4 years.

It's all about "the guaranteed money" the rest is just window dressing for the agents.

Glad this deal got done and he is very deserving of it all...

Finally, some Packers news I can sit down and smile at in the off-season.

Feels incredible...😮

In recent weeks, as the Packers and linebacker Clay Matthews closed in on a new contract, some reported that Matthews will become the highest-paid linebacker in the game. And now that he has signed a five-year, $66 million extension, many are proclaiming that Matthews, with an average of $13.2 million, has exceeded the prior high-water

31mil/6=5.17 mil + base salary will prob be what Clays cap # will be.
