The Packers could use a running back, and Peyton Hillis could use a job. So perhaps Hillis will land in Green Bay. It's at least a possibility, as ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Hillis is visiting the Packers. After a breakout season in Cleveland in 2010, when Hillis had 1,177 rushing yards, 47 receiving yards

The Packers are hosting Peyton Hillis for a free-agent visit. We wonder if this is a leverage play by GM Ted Thompson as he attempts to bring Steven Jackson's price tag down. Hillis would be a major downgrade from Jackson. It's also possible Thompson is seriously considering signing two backs; Hillis is strong in the passing game and can even lead block in a pinch.Related: PackersSource: Adam Schefter on Twitter

The free agent game is getting interesting as the Packers work on potential deals with WR Greg Jennings and RB Steven Jackson.

peeps may not agree..

but I'd like Jackson or Hillis on the cheap than Jennings on an expensive contract.. save the cap for CM3 + Arod

I have more faith in Arod than any of our current RBs..

Also, I like both these RBs because they are big, physical runners... Hillis isn't great, but he can get the job done.

I know this is sacrilegious, but I've never been a Kuhn fan and could see Hillis ONLY if he were used in a FB role.

However, as the articles allude to, this just seems to be a leverage move by Ted to keep the cost of Jackson down.

besides, Jackson has a couple teams bidding for him (as far as we know), us talking to Hillis isnt going to change his price much unless he has already chosen GB for reasons other than money.

If Jackson were to sign, then it’ll be an incentive-laden deal. I’m guessing seven million is the target for Jackson and his agent.

On paper, I think it makes a lot sense. Hillis is the ideal fullback for this scheme, and Jackson is such a significant upgrade. I’m trying to be optimistic here.

If we cut Kuhn and get both Hillis & Jackson, we have totally upgraded our running game except for one part ... the offensive line.

We should be able to pick up a 3rd and short with that. There has been nothing more repulsvie than watching the Packer offense on 3rd and short over the last 5 years. Sometimes I want to cry.

3rd & short would be nice picking it up with the run and in some occasions we can pull a quickie with a play action if our 3rd down run would actually work!
