The Jets, concerned that injured PK Mike Nugent will miss at least one game, have agreed to a contract with veteran kicker Jay Feely, an NFL source told the Daily News.
Feeley, 32, who played for the Giants in 2005 and 2006, was among three kickers invited to audition today for the Jets. The others were Dave Rayner and Aaron Elling.
Feelys lifetime percentage is 80.8% on field-goal attempts. He kicked well for the Dolphins last season, but he was a surprise cut this summer in training camp. He landed with the Chiefs, but was cut after a day.
Nugent apparently pulled a muscle in his right (kicking) thigh on his second kickoff in Sundays win over the Dolphins. It resulted in a squib kickoff. Later, he tried a 32-yard field goal, but missed badly and limped off the field. He came on later in the game for a PAT, making that, but it was clear that he was hurting.
The Jets must release a player to make room for Feely.
