Great news on the storm situation! Yesterday afternoon the wind was so bad against my garage door that the hinges to each section were popping and stripping the bolts securing them to the door itself. The force was so strong that you could not physically press that little point at the hinge back in place manually. I took several 2x6's, some carpet padding, (to protect the bumpers) and wedged the 2x6's between the cars and the door. Worked like a dream! Now I don't know if I have any shingles left, and am fearful to even look outside once we have light, but the important thing I wanted to report is that the Green Bay Packers stock certificate ( which resides in the garage) is unscathed.
A man must establish his priorities.
That was a stressful evening. The sound and feeling was a constant "pulsing freight train"-- just not having to listen/feel that anymore is relief. We lost power at about 6 PM, and I was amazed it lasted that long. Then we had a divine / PPL intervention (Pennsylvania Power and Light 😛 )) . Somehow, someone was able to restore power to us about 2 hours later. When you are looking at a scenario of not having power for the next week plus - sick as a dog- to have it come on and stay on is nothing short of a miracle.
I appreciate the Godsend even more as I type this, as the "cold-side" of this storm is upon us, and we would be quite miserable without heat. I don't know if this good fortune will last, as the local news is showing several power lines in very close proximity where things like light poles (lit) have the light itself about 2 feet off the ground- I'd call that tenuous.
I also seem to be a little better health-wise. I couldn't have asked for better luck, and we needed it.
The damage I'm aware of in my neighborhood is extensive, we shall see how we fared in a bit.
