great game by the young man. I am interested to see how much he will develop after he learns all the intricacies he needs to play in the NFL.

Hayward to me seems like the opposite of Shields (not meant as a negative thing for either guy). While Shields is a phenomenal physical talent he sometimes plays with shoddy technique or mental mistakes. Hayward isn't a physically elite guy but his technique seems picture perfect (pretty amazing for a rookie).

Is Pat Lee really doing that well with the Raiders? I don't think he's started a game. I think his stats are just 13 tackles, 2 passes defended, and one forced fumble. Admittedly, I haven't really watched much of the Raider's, but let's not get carried away here. 😉

His stats and smarts where quite amazing, though. Something you're seeing pretty clearly now.

He actually reminds me a bit of Tramon. Ran a 4.59, nearly identical to Hayward's 4.57 combine 40, but both play faster than that. They both thrived on intelligence and vision in college, making up for some of that lack of raw physical ability like Shields has, but still better athletes than given credit for.

Of course, he's not Tramon yet, but this guy could have a bright future.

After Woodson and Shields went down in the Super Bowl, Lee filled in well enough to help us win the game in the second half. I won't forget him for that, but outside of that he was disappointing as a second round pick. Barely even got any playing time as the nickel CB when he was healthy. I'm not surprised he wasn't brought back after his rookie contract expired.

Hayward seems to be the real deal and what the Packers were hoping Lee would have been. He, Williams, and Shields gives us a pretty good trio of CBs and helps keep Bush off the field. I think this newest defensive draft class Thompson brought in has done a pretty admirable job so far. McMillan, Hayward, Worthy, and Perry have all made defensive contributions this season and our depth is much better at a lot of positions than it was a year ago. Better to throw these rookies out there and learn on the job then to go with the same under-achieving veterans we had on defense last season. Even Mike Neal, who is now 100% healthy, has improved the defensive line somewhat.

While he wasn't as fast, according to NFL Network's Mike Mayock, Hayward probably had the best ball skills out of any of the cornerbacks coming out in the draft... including over Morris Claiborne.

And he definitely showed it. He doesn't have elite straight line speed, but he kept playing the ball, and not the receiver. Guy's gonna be a ballhawk.

If House turns out to be a fine player, we're good with Tramon and Hayward, with House and Shields competing to play slot.

We just gotta find somebody to really replace Charles Woodson. Is it McMillan or Jennings? Maybe. I'd draft another safety though.

Him and house are the future. Loved the picks both times. I scream VANDY whenever Hayward takes the field.

And Hayward may be our best 2nd round pick since Jordy.
