http://myespn.go.com/blogs/nfcnorth/0-4-29/Daily-mailbag--Jennings-gets-his-due--sort-of-.html

We didn't hear as many protestations as we thought we might after last week's NFL preview. But we did catch a reasonable tongue-lashing from Joseph, who questioned a Scouts, Inc. rating of 78 for Green Bay Packers receiver Greg Jennings. (A 78 rating falls in Scouts, Inc.'s "solid player" category.)

You need an Insider subscription to get to this, but overall Scouts, Inc. rated Jennings No. 21 on a list of the NFL's top receivers. Jennings actually ranked ahead of teammate Donald Driver (24) but was behind such players as Pittsburgh's Santonio Holmes (T-12), Chicago's Devin Hester (T-14) and Kansas City's Dwayne Bowe (T-18).

Joseph of Atlanta writes: Okay, enough is enough and I've gotta ask: what's with the apparent consensus that Greg Jennings is a nonentity? The latest is the 78 rating ESPN gave him in the Packers season preview (8/27). He put up top 10 receiving numbers last year in everything but catches and yards, and with six more catches, would have broken 1000 yards receiving with 11 fewer catches than Plaxico Burress (fewest catches among 1000 yard receivers). And that was in 13 games. Yet Marques Colston is a top wideout? I understand he played with Favre, but did Reggie Wayne (P. Manning), Colston (Brees), or Chad Johnson (Palmer) put up the kinds of numbers Jennings has? Not to mention he's only in his second year, and caught Aaron Rodgers' only career touchdown pass. Add in the three game-winning touchdown catches last season alone, and we've got some pretty awesome numbers for a second-year player. Where's his hype?

Kevin Seifert: Scouts, Inc., had this to say about Jennings in their ratings: "He is a versatile player who can align in multiple spots in the Packers' spread offense. Jennings is a very productive player with enough size to be a big-time threat in the red zone."

I can't speak to the methods of their numerical ratings, but I think that's a pretty accurate assessment of Jennings on a qualitative level. The best thing you can say about Jennings is that's he's productive, especially with 12 touchdowns in 13 games last season. The worst thing you can say is that he hasn't been able to avoid the injury bug.

An ankle injury cost him one game in 2006 and two games last season, and a knee injury sidelined him during the 2008 preseason. To me, the only thing holding back Jennings from a higher ranking is showing that he can play a 16-game season. That would put him on track for surpassing the 1,000-yard barrier that generally brings receivers a level of acclaim.

"Greg Jennings definitely makes a difference when he's out there," coach Mike McCarthy told reporters in Green Bay this week. Jennings will be especially valuable Monday night against Minnesota; highly productive No. 3 receiver James Jones could miss that game because of a sprained knee.

Greg Jennings is the future of the Packers

GREG JENNINGS CAN PUT UP THE NUMBERS THIS YEAR TO BE FAR BETTER THEN MOST OF THE WR THEY HAVE LISTED BEFORE HIM. IF HEALTHY HIM AND RODGERS CAN MAKE A VERY GOOD COMBO. UNLIKE THE VIKES WHO HAVE VERY LITTLE FIRE POWER AS FAR AS PASSING OFFENSE. MOSTLY DUE TO A #### AT QB. THE PACKERS WILL HAVE A MUCH BETTER SEASON THEN THE VIKES. THE VIKES DEFENSE WILL CARRY THE VIKES AS FAR AS THEY GO AS WELL AS THE RUNNING GAME. THE QB WILL STOP THEM FROM GOING TO THE PLAYOFFS.

"Solid" is not the right word to describe Jennings. That's just where he fell in the rankings. He's spectacular but not always available. So it averages out to a "solid" ranking. I'm okay with that. If Jennings stays healthy for a full season, he will put up big numbers and a bunch more highlight reel plays and he will earn his props. I'm sure a lot of people remember the OT catch in Denver.

Umm I agree he is a big time threat in the Red Zone but not because of his size, he is the smallest Packers WR at 5'11 and he has an average weight.

Underrated as far as fans and critics go. But the teams matched up against our WR's, including Gregorious, know that he is a very dangerous player.

The media have always seemed to underrate the Packers lately. If teams do the same, it'll be a big mistake and their loss. So go ahead, give Jennings a 78. But he'll burn you with that speed he was never rated with, the catching skills people don't think he has, and the agility to dodge a bullet if given the chance.

Not many people realize that he missed a few games last year. He had almost a TD a game and nearly 1000 yards despite missing games.

beast (7h) : Seems like he was just pissed because he was no longer the starter
beast (7h) : Campbell is right, he's rich and he doesn't have to explain sh!t... but that attitude gives teams reasons to never sign him again.
dfosterf (22-Feb) : I have some doubt about all that
dfosterf (22-Feb) : I read De'Vondre Campbell's tweet this morning (via the New York Post) Florio says that if he invested his earnings wisely, he will be good
beast (20-Feb) : I haven't followed, but I believe he's good when healthy, just hasn't been able to stay healthy.
dfosterf (20-Feb) : Hasn"t Bosa missed more games than he has played in the last 3 years?
Mucky Tundra (19-Feb) : He hasn't been too bad when healthy but I don't feel like I ever heard much about when he is
Zero2Cool (19-Feb) : Felt like he was more interested in his body, than football. He flashed more than I expected
Zero2Cool (19-Feb) : When he was coming out, I thought he'd be flash in pan.
Mucky Tundra (19-Feb) : Joey seems so forgettable compared to his brother for some reason
Zero2Cool (19-Feb) : NFL informed teams today that the 2025 salary cap will be roughly $277.5M-$281.5M
Zero2Cool (19-Feb) : Los Angeles Chargers are likely to release DE Joey Bosa this off-season as a cap casualty, per league source.
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : If the exploit is not fixed, we'll see tons of "50 top free agents, 50 perfect NFL team fits: We picked where each should sign in March" lo
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : Issue should be solved, database cleaned and held strong working / meeting. Boom!
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : It should be halted now.
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : usually spambots are trying to get traffic to shady websites filled with spyware; the two links being spammed were to the Packers website
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : you know when you put it that way combined with the links it was spamming (to the official Packers website)
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : Yep. You can do that with holding down ENTER on a command in Console of browser
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : even with the rapid fire posts?
    Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : I'm not certain it's a bot.
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : I've got to go to work soon which is a pity because I'm enthralled by this battle between the bot and Zero
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : Yeah, I see what that did. Kind of funny.
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : now it's a link to Wes Hodkiezwicz mailbag
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : Now they're back with another topic
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : oh lol
    Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : I have a script that purges them now.
    Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : 118 Topics with Message.
    Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : what's 118 (besides a number)?
    Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : They got 118 slapped in there.
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : that's why it confused the hell out of me
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : Yeah, but this is taking a headline and slapping it into the Packers Talk
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : Wasnt there a time guests could post in the help forum?
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : lol good question, kind of impressed!
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : So how is a guest posting?
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : Tell them its an emergency
    Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : Working. Meetings.
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : Lots of fun; the spam goes back 4 or 5 pages by this point
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : I thought you'd look for yourself and put 2 and 2 together lol. I overestimated ya ;)
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : I thought Guests couldnt post?
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : And gosh that's gonna be fun to clean up! hahaa
Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : Oh. Why not just say that then? Geez.
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : check the main forum, seems a spam bot is running amok
    Zero2Cool (18-Feb) : What?
Mucky Tundra (18-Feb) : Is the Packers online game "Packers Predict" now available for 2024? I can't tell
Zero2Cool (17-Feb) : Bengals planning to Franchise Tag Tamaurice Higgins
Zero2Cool (14-Feb) : Packers are hiring Luke Getsy as senior offensive assistant.
Martha Careful (12-Feb) : I would love to have them both, esp. Crosby, but either might be too expensive.
Zero2Cool (12-Feb) : Keisean Nixon is trying to get Maxx Crosby and Davante Adams lol
Mucky Tundra (11-Feb) : Yeah where did it go?
packerfanoutwest (11-Feb) : or did you resctrict access to that topic?
