Last season, Packers were dead last in passing defense. This year, they are in first place after three games!! POP THE CHAMPAGNE!!

Well, it's definitely improved as a unit. But I'm not quite ready to pop champagne yet. Sorry.

Fortunately, though, once the offense gets its act in gear, there isn't that much improvement needed. :)

THREE games is a reasonable gauge for a 16 game season.

Factor in jumping up 31 spots... That is phenomenal.

Cutler was in the pro bowl, was he not?

This defense is for real. They may not be #1 across the board, but right now I'm more worried about the offense. Particularly in short yardage situations.

Game 1 was against a very good team but it was the first game of the season, and we lost due to problems on offense and defense. Game 2 was against the Bears, the offense was mediocre but the defense was killer. The bears O line sucks and Cutler sucks, though. Game 3, the offense still fizzled but the defense played well, however the seahawks have a very good defense and a poor offense.

The saints are kind of a mystery too, if we shut them down on defense, is it because we're really that improved or is it because the Saints have been struggling and are continuing to struggle? If the offense plays well, is it because the offense is good or because the Saints D sucks?

Packers got throttled once, throttled someone once, and eeked out a bloody non-victory on the final play. Call it 1.5-1.5 if you want, I don't think any of us would agree we're a 8-8 team either. But the Packers did not play well enough to definitively win that game, considering the final score. Overcame adversity, sure. Had a solid showing on defense and special teams, sure.

IMO at this point it is a large ray of hope. The teams we played are questionable but I don't think last years D would have done as well. Brees should be a little stiffer test and add to the evaluation. My mantra this year is for the D to have definite improvement each week. I think this D has the potential to be very good the last half of the year and the playoffs.
