Former Green Bay Packers linebacker Dave Robinson might finally be getting the long overdue call for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Robinson was named one of two senior committee finalists on Wednesday.

Before we get to Robinson’s accomplishments, we should point out how this convoluted process works. Robinson had to be chosen as a finalist by the senior committee, which is made up of nine old timers from the 44-member Hall of Fame selection committee. The senior committee has to give the full committee two finalists each year from the pre-1988 era. The idea being, some of these clowns on the selection committee are too young to remember deserving guys from other eras who may otherwise have been overlooked. In the end, Robinson has to get approval from 80 percent of the full committee to gain induction into the Hall of Fame.

“I’m on top of the world, riding that big wave,” said Robinson. “I just hope I don’t wipe out, that’s all.”

Robinson had pretty much given up hope that he would be enshrined in the Hall of Fame, but now as a veteran nominee, he will automatically be included in the final 17 players that are considered next February during Super Bowl week.

“From now till February I’m going to be on pins and needles hoping everything comes out,” said Robinson, who turned 71 in May. “I don’t dare assume that something happens.”

For years Robinson couldn’t understand why he would get passed over by the Hall of Fame.

Former Packers assistant coach Dave Hanner rated Robinson ahead of Ray Nitschke. And former Packers defensive coordinator Phil Bengtson rated Robinson as the second-best player he ever coached behind only Nitschke and ahead of Henry Jordan, Herb Adderley and Willie Davis.

I would like to see Robinson get in. But Jerry Kramer deserves it beyong the shadow of a doubt. Total injustice.
Why is Jerry Kramer not in the Hall of Fame?

I hope Robinson gets in but I'm still stumped as to why Jerry Kramer is being shut out.
I think Kramer was a more valuable piece to the Packers championship puzzle than Robinson was.

and my wife got to spend several hours
with him and Ron Kramer, and he was so
nice and outgoing to us. he told us several
stories from the glory days, and lets us try on
his Super Bowl rings. another "Packer person".

Somebody tell Jerry Kramer to join the Freemasons.

But, IMO, for what he did, Robinson was a much better player/performer than Kramer.

I think Kramer deserves to be in the HOF. But Robinson should have been in long ago, too. I think he was kept out because of the bright lights of Davis, Jordan, et al and especially Nitschke ("an average player could look HOFish if he'd had those playing inside him, Adderly playing outside him, and Wood playing behind him. But Robinson helped all those others around him look like HOFers just as much as they made him look like one.

I have no idea why he wasn't in earlier.

beast (4h) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (9h) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (9h) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (10h) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (10h) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (10h) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (10h) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (14h) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
dfosterf (14h) : Zero- Did you see what I posted about Voice of Reason and his wife? She posted over at fleaflicker that they are both "In"
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : Well, not crazy, it makes sense. Crazy I didn't notice/find it earlier
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : it's crazy how one stored procedure to get data bogged everything down for speed here
dfosterf (7-Aug) : to herd cats or goldfish without a bowl. They reminded me of the annual assembly of our fantasy league

Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing

beast (2-Aug) : I believe it's technically against the CBA rules, but Jerry just calls it a simple unofficial chat... and somehow gets away with it.
beast (2-Aug) : Jerry Jones is infamous for ̶n̶e̶g̶o̶t̶i̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ chatting with players one on one... and going around the agent.

Zero2Cool (1-Aug) : McLaurin nor Micah going anywhere. They will get money
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : the Synder years or do they take care of one of their own?

Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Turns 30 this September, plays at a high level and Washington has some cap space I believe
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : More interesting is Washington with Terry McLaurin
