Concussions haven't been tracked much in the NFL until the last few years. With the lawsuit with over 1,000 players, why is it a shock that concussions for college players are being thought of publicly when making a draft selection? It makes sense to me. If the head isn't right, nothing else will work.

It is interesting though - will it be enough to force a really good player down many boards? I think it will and I think it is unprecedented. I've never seen it happen.

I think guys like Matthews are rare! If you are lucky enough to get one, thank your GM.

Pittsburgh's OLB don't have Matthew's talents, they just mold what they have into something that works. Although, Pittsburgh does tend to get lit up by good offenses and are a tad over-rated. Playing Cleveland and Cincinatti twice a year could tend to make your rankings better than you are.

My point was this. You didn't see an impact OLB in the 2009 draft at 26, so you not seeing one at 28 this year doesn't mean squat! :-"

I see no-ssink!

Yeah, to me, this is the really exciting part, seeing what the professionals actually do in the draft. One of my biggest concerns is with regards to the big dudes on DL. We need them, and they tend to go off the boards pretty early. The sexy picks to us fans are the ones we know of from reading the reports, usually the first 100 or so players. I wonder about those guys the pros rate on DL and OLB R4-7.

Now, picking winners there, that's F'n sexy!

I read an article that quoted McClellin saying that he has really only had "1.5 concussions" because one of them was extremely minor. Was he completely lying? Where did four concussions come from? It was an article on PFT. I will try to find it later.

I also read somewhere that Mike Mayock thinks Chandler Jones will be the absolute best pass rusher to come from this draft in a few seasons. I believe this was something I saw flashed on NFL Network. If this is the case, drafting him would be awesome.

Just some things to add to the discussion.

EDIT:

An NFL Network report that Boise State defensive end/outside linebacker Shea McClellin sustained three concussions at Boise State has been making the rounds on draft-tracking websites recently.

Today, McClellin told me the report is not true. He did get a concussion in 2010 at Wyoming and a mild one in 2009, he said. "It's like 1 1/2," he said.

McClellin said he changed helmets after the Wyoming concussion and never had another problem.

McClellin missed one game in 2009 with a hamstring injury and the last three games in 2008 with a knee injury. He played in the last 39 games of his career.

OK, so it was "best defensive player," but still. My statement stands.

"I'm gonna make a statement," said Mayock. "Three years from now, I'm gonna say Chandler Jones is the best defensive player to come out of this draft."

It's interesting and fun to follow what the journalists, sportscasters, bloggers, etc. say but I try to take it with a grain of salt, even if they are ex NFL personel. They're usually ex for a reason. I'm most interested in what Ted Thompson is thinking. He has a good eye for talent. Of course, there's no way to have an idea of that until after the draft.

I had a dream about our draft last night. We ended up with 3 first round picks. 2 were cornerbacks and 1 was a RB.

I wonder...is evidence that McClellin thinks you can have partial concussions evidence that he might have had too many, or merely evidence that he's a dumb jock?
