Only six teams have less salary cap space than Green Bay’s $3.425 million. Here’s a look at the updated salary-cap status for all 32 teams counting their top 51 contracts as of Saturday.

The Green Bay Packers have $3.425 million in salary cap space, according to financial figures provided to Scout.com’s Aaron Wilson.

While that figure is as of midday Saturday, it does not include the contract finalized with free-agent defensive end Anthony Hargrove on Friday. It does, however, include free-agent center Jeff Saturday’s two-year contract that’s worth $7.75 million. His 2012 cap figure is $3.175 million, according to Wilson's source.

Until rosters are finalized at the end of training camp, only the top 51 salaries count against the salary cap.

How come literally no one includes the signing of Daniel Muir in anything? When you add Muir and Hargrove to that, that sure doesn't leave us with much room to sign our draft picks.

It's also important to keep in mind that this number doesn't represent Drivers upcoming restructuring or the potential releasing of Clifton. Who knows what other cuts/trades/additions will be made, also. This number doesn't mean much to me at this point. There's not hurry to make any moves until they either decide to add another free agent or until around/after the draft. There's not worry in my mind about being able to sign our draft picks. We're just in more of a waiting period right now awaiting further transactions.

I think the important thing to point out is the fact that only the 51 highest salaries count against the cap until after final cuts.

What do we have on the roster right now, 80 players or so?

After we cut 15-25 players, the cap will have a bit more room in it.

An article that brought me to this story mentioned that it is assumed Clifton will be cut and DD restructured. I was thinking it was a part of the story I put in here so I didn't mention it again.

Our 4th/5th receiver should have at least some special teams value, i.e. blocking punts and such like one of the young guys seems to have a knack for (Gurley?). I would be surprised if Clifton comes back, although he could still probably play as well or slightly better than Newhouse, when healthy. I'm guessing his fate depends on Sherrods health and/or what type of offensive linemen are drafted. If we don't draft any solid tackles and Sherrods health is in question, I'd love to see him back at a reduced salary, but I don't imagine those things happening.

McCarthy hopes to see something from Sherrod this summer.

"He's there (at the facility) every day," McCarthy said from Palm Beach, Florida. "He looks better every time I see him. They're projecting probably training camp, so we'll know more when we get to OTAs. Hopefully, he can get out there in June and do something."
