I know many consider Jimi the greatest guitarist . I never cared for his work. Seemed out of control most of the time to me. Clapton did a great job as did Santana and Townshend. How can anyone rate Joe Walsh 113th? Hotel California duo with Don Felder should put him in the top 25.

I don't know the names of many rock guitarists (though I of course have the obligatory love for Zak Wylde), but I do know that a surprising number of them shop at Dave's Guitar Shop, a dinky little store here in La Crosse, Wisconsin. I have no idea why, but that store is well known all over the country among professional musicians, and they come from all over to buy guitars from him. The former manager of the local civic center told me that one of the first words out of rockers' mouths was almost always, "Hey, can we visit Dave's Guitar Shop?" -- and even though they would usually fly in on days he was closed, he would dutifully send someone in to open up for a special visit. A lot of times those guitars ended up in pieces on the stage, but they got their chance to see Dave. Based on his reputation alone, the guy must be a millionaire several times over.

Nice, a little recognition for Matt Bellamy.

I always feel like Pete Townshend is a little overrated as a guitarist alone. I mean, amazing musician, great songwriter etc but most of the time, what he played wasn't that special just by itsself.

Oh yeah, and the obligatory comment about missing Alex Turner...

I was going to bitch that the Nug wasn't on the list, but I saw he's at 114 which is extremely low for him.

Stupid fucking list! Brian May is discredited because he had the best male vocalist of all time as the lead singer of his band.

I'm sorry, Zakk Wylde is very talented compared to most in the top 25, as is Dimebag for the top 50. Obviously the dick brain behind this list has never seen either of them live, and is, of course, a classic rock fanboy. Same with the drummer's thread.

I suppose if there was a top 100 vocalist list, Glenn Danzig would be #1 and Layne Stayley wouldn't be mentioned?

How about a top 100 Bassists without Les Claypool, Rex Brown, or Robbie Trujillo?

Another thing, Larry Lalonde is on this list but not even Tony Rombola? This list is shit.

Young people never get credit. Geezers love to think their generation was the shit and everyone afterward sucks and doesn't know how to do anything right.

That's why.

I'm in my 40s. If you can get through the Emo crap, you'll find a lot of damn good musicians out there. These young ones are better musicians than my generation any day of the week. Granted, the internet made the world a very small place. You'll always have open-minded musicians in every generation and now, you can explore the world's music with a click of a mouse button.

Nothing more annoying than hearing some geezer say "there isn't any good music any more." Sure there is. There's more good music now than there's ever been simply because there's more than there's ever been.

Today is a wet dream for a music lover. It's easier to find good music nowadays than good porn, and that's really saying something.
